As I said in an earlier post, the Bundok deal from KA-BAR is my first time getting any Beckers. They were delivered today, and I left work a bit early to go get them and see what I was missing. So I've had them for a few hours now. I've got to say, I'm liking them. There are a few small fit and finish things, but nothing huge, and nothing a deal breaker.

I really wish I had gotten the BK5 earlier. It feels great in the hand, and I love the sweep of the blade. I can tell it is going to be a great slicing knife. The handles are a little off on the top, especially on the left side, so I could see a hot spot developing there, but I was thinking about getting new handles for it anyway. Now I have to choose between micarta or G10. And I'm also going to be getting a new sheath, as it rattles quite a bit in this one (it's the only one of the three that does, probably due to the thinner blade). Like I said, none of these little things is a deal breaker. It's still an awesome knife I wish I'd gotten much earlier.

The BK4 is certainly an interesting knife. It is smaller than I thought it would be, not by much, and not in a bad way. I thought it looked awkward and ungainly in pictures, but holding it really changes your mind quickly. I can tell that this will be incredibly useful around camp, and around the fire. The flat part of the blade closest to the handle is set just perfectly for fine, up close carving, thanks to the angle it sits at from the handle. My only issue is that this section of blade, from the handle to where it curves outward came very dull. There is almost no edge to it at all. The hatchet portion of the blade is incredibly sharp, but not the first part of the blade. Again, not a huge deal, I'll sharpen it right up.

On to the beast, the BK20 Bundok Bowie. This thing is even more impressive in person. I'd put it right up there with the Junglas, except the profile is a bit meaner, a bit more classic Bowie (I'll post side by side pictures later). It feels great in the hand, and feels like it just wants to do work. I can't wait to get out and have a go with the Bundok and Junglas. I'll also probably be getting new handles for this, though not due to any F&F issues. I also may want to sharpen the swedge on the top. Just to give it that extra something. Not sure if I will, but I'm considering it. I'm not much for batoning, so that's not a concern. And this screams for a nice Kydex sheath.

All in all, I am incredibly happy with my purchase and am glad these are my first Beckers, as they are fantastic ambassadors for Becker. I can definitely see that I was missing out on not owning any of Mr. Becker's designs, but no longer. This will almost certainly lead to more, but for now I'm going to be tricking these three out to make them mine.

Loosen the bolts, realign, tighten.

You have some fine blades there sir! Btw--you can loosen the handle scale screws and adjust the fit to get them right where you want them before tightening them back down. Fwiw. Again, welcome to the insanity--you bought yourself a big old dose!

Thanks for the info. I'll do this. That's great to know! Like I said, not a huge issue, but now not an issue at all.

Congrats on the steel by the way. Nothing like getting fresh steel in.

Sucks about the 4 not being sharp on part of it. I've not had that issue on any Beckers I've received. All shaving sharp out of the box. The 4 is one sweet blade. I love the thing. A blast to use. Here's my first time using it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1223343-Fun-Weekend-With-The-BK4-(Photo-Heavy)

The 5 is awesome too. Here's my first time using it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-BK5-First-Time-Using?p=14953839#post14953839

Thanks. I'm really liking them. Can't wait to get out and really use them. Part of the 4 not being sharpened isn't really that big a deal to me. Things happen on assembly lines. I get it. I'm not taking it as a negative about Becker or KABAR at all. The other 2 are both crazy sharp. I actually have many KABARs, all came sharp. This one just slipped through.

Nice posts and pictures. Can't wait to test mine out like that.

The 5 really feels almost like a beefed up kitchen knife. Like it just wants to slice all day. I really like that. Often, these bigger blades just get thick, and want to chop and stab, but this just screams slicing.

I really want to get the 4 out into the woods. I just recently got two KABAR kukris, and have liked them, but I feel like this may be more useful to me (not that the kukris aren't). It just seems like the 4 can do a lot of chopping, then get in and carve too. The angle of the blade coming off the handle is interesting, and puts my hands just right for close in carving work. It's a different blade shape, and it certainly looks like it's going to be fun to use.

Congrats - great combo into Beckers. Smart to get three at once because it is difficult to have only one BK&T. My first BK20 is set for delivery at any moment.

Hey Polarwolf.....

Welcome..... I am certainly glad that you decided to buy a box of Becker Blades and happier that you are happy with them.... Please, pull up a log close to the fire and stick around.....I am anxious to know how you like using them..... Be forewarned that the denizens of this place do like pictures a lot.....

Thank you again for buying Becker....

loctite or saran wrap is your friend

I just got my bundok package too. All three came sharp enough to shave.

I've never held a bk5 before and wow, where has this blade been all my life. I'm thinking this is going to be my new fishing companion.

The bk20 is a monster. Should chop like crazy.

So, a little late, but here are some pictures of the Bundok side by side with the Junglas. (Sorry for poor quality images). I haven't been able to test them out side by side yet. I've been dealing with a medical issue since August that's pretty much kept me indoors. I've got procedures scheduled in May, so after that, I'll be able to go out and really put it through its paces.

To me, the Bundok just looks meaner than the Junglas, but in a good way. That extra meat towards the tip of the blade makes me think that it'll chop nicer. I almost feel like I can do more kinds of work with the Bundok than the Junglas.

I had shied away from Beckers previously because I wasn't sure I was going to like the handles, but after holding both the Bundok and the Junglas at the same time, I have to say I was wrong to wait. The ergonomics on the Bundok (and the 4 & 5 for that matter) are fantastic. I enjoy the way the Junglas feels in my hands, but I found I feel the same way about the Bundok. I'm not sure if that will change when actually using the Bundock, but I don't think it will. I wonder a little if the Bundok's handles are going to be a little too slick when chopping, but I'm not going to speculate until I actually try.

Hey Polarwolf.....

See CM Ricks recent post on the smooth handles on Beckers....you can find it on you tube under Foxwalk Primitive.... Smooth handles do not cause hot spots or blisters during prolonged use....... I hope your medical issues resolve in a very positive way!!!!!... And quickly too...

Mr. Becker, thank you for the well wishes, and the information. That was very informative and helpful. It really makes sense. I really do enjoy the way the handles fit my hands. I was a bit apprehensive about the smoothness of them out of some unrealistic fear that the knife would somehow fly out of my hand like a spear, but now it makes a lot of sense. Intuitively it just makes sense that smooth handles would help prevent hot spots, but I've never dealt with a knife this big with handles this smooth. I'm really looking forward to getting out and using them for an extended period. You really have designed some fantastic tools.

Welcome aboard, Shipmate.

You certainly jumped into the deep end from the high board with your acquisition - good for you, no dipping of the toe into the pool first, eh?

You got yourself three outstanding blades including my favorite slicing/dicing knife, the lively BK5. It makes short and easy work of anything in the kitchen from beef to bread to include a harmful intruder if need be.

The BK4 is a great size and personifies (if a knife can even do that) the phrase punching about its weight.

Then, of course, there is the BK20 which almost defies description.

Congratulations; enjoy!
