The weather is amazing here today so I thought I'd get out and try my new rod on the creek behind my apartment complex. I got tangled up on the second cast and lost a jighead and grub right off the bat. So I moved downstream a bit to where there was a little more room to cast. I am several years out of practice.

Here's some of what I had with me

Had a little luck at this next spot. The only one of the afternoon.

After getting a few more hits but no more fish I moved further down to some shadier areas. I'd been hiking around down here many times and I new how thick it could get with shrubs and thorny vines. I have tried the Junglas on this stuff before but the vegetation is pretty light and I thought the Lite Machete would be better suited for it. I was right. The machete worked great on it's first time out into the woods.

Now I don't know if I caught the zipper with the edge of the machete at some point of this old pack just decided it was time to quite but the main zipper decided to give out on me. Time for a little backwoods fix.

Crude, I know, but it held together long enough for me to get back to my apartment without everything spilling out on the trail.

Just as I was finishing up tying my pack together a couple other guys came trekking through the woods. They said the fishing can be pretty decent at this creek which was good hear. Can't wait to get back out. Jeff and Mike, my go to day pack is shot, how's that US made Junglas Pack coming along?:D

All in all it was a few hours well spent. Other than my one trophy fish, the highlight afternoon must have been when one of the guys I met said "Hey is that a machete on your back?" When I said yes, his reply was simply, "Awesome."

Sounds like an excellent way to spend the day. Beats recliner/couch time anyday. Next time use those knives to clean your catch and cook him on a fire right there. Lemon and black pepper is easy to carry. I enjoyed the post.
