Here's a lovely Fisk Sendero - several years old - with mortised and pinned Ram's Horn handle, Dog Star damascus blade and a super Paul Long sheath. The owner sent it back to Jerry for refurbishing, engraving and general spiffing up. It had seen some use and... Whaaa? Someone used it? Absolutely, and why not? It's like drinking really fine wine. Those who can afford it, do. And those who can't, wish they could. ;)

Aside from touching on that perennial topic having to do with actually using pricey custom knives, it's useful to remember that most makers are happy to help us collectors keep our knives in great shape. It's a win-win philosophy and this is a great example of that principle at work.

OAL on this one is 8.5 in. and blade is 4.25 in. Weight w/o sheath is 4.2 oz. There are fine friction grooves on the blade's spine ahead of the guard for close work. Soon the owner will get his like-new knife back and what a happy camper he will be! :D

I dig it and as I said somewhere else the photo in particular stands out alot. Very nice. And the knife is real nice too, I miss my sendero with that steel.

It's a beauty!

And as for using it? Well, why not? Everybody does with his/her knives what he/she wants!

Kind regards,

Jos

Old or new, the Sendero is always a treat for the eye even though there's been quite a few made over the last 18 years.
Yes, one of the most timeless and recognizable hunter designs in custom knives.

Anyone know how Jerry came up with the name Sendero?

Beautiful, knife and beautiful photo.

Good point and worth remembering. Beautiful Sendero, and nice pic as well.

Love Jerry's Sendero design and the Dog Star damascus. Don't own either at this point, hope to someday.

Thanks for posting this Buddy!

Kevin, Sendero was the name of Jerry's horse during the time in his life when he was working at the Bull Pine Ranch.

Roger, I can't go on like this my friend. I was baiting Kevin, I just made that up. Sorry, please don't save that info in your mental hard drive :o

I did put some thought into it as Bull Pine is a damascus patten Jerry used on NLT #2 from 2006.

Neglected to mention that I love the sheath.

Man, I have to get one of those Fisk knives. I'd been admiring them for years and just found out the other day, he went to school with my dad and his sister. Still family friends...I guess that means I really have to get one now :)

Everything about this is rich: The sheath, the steel, the handle, the engraving. That it is in such a pleasing simple shape, makes it work all the better.

Immaculate display. Great job!

Rob, such an intreging story you almost had me believing it even though I knew it wasn't so. :D ;)

A Sendero would go quite nicely with that beautiful Fisk Gamemaster you have.

It looks almost brand new now Buddy.. I agree with the all of the above, Sendero's are really nice.. Best, Rich

Anyone know how Jerry came up with the name Sendero?

Early on, when Jerry was perfecting the Sendero design/prototype he was hunting wild boar with Harvey Dean in the thick underbrush of south Texas where they had to make their way through narrow paths. These paths were called "Senderos" (spanish for path). Jerry liked the word so picked it for the name for his new hunting knife design.

The etymology of the two words combined:

Send: O.E. sendan "send, send forth, throw,"
Ero: Ancient Greek distinguished four ways of love: erao "to be in love with, to desire passionately or sexually;"

Therefore, this knife is sending passionate desire.

Agreed. :D
