A folder more comfortable than a Bullnose ?

Ive own five GEC and some other traditional folder like Case ,German Eye etc . Among them the Bullnose has the most beautiful shape and best handle feel .

I also love the skinner blade which offers a large curve for slicing and a stronger tip than clip or spear ,yet still pointy enough . And the handle shape allows me to pinch open it ( a #85 bullet end may do so ,but has a larger profile).

The only thing I am not satisfiled (just a little) is the handle material , functional enough but too slippy ,also hard to leave wear (that is a fun of natural material ,as well as micarta).

So is there any knife at least comfortable as a Bullnose in shape , but with natural or micarta scales ? I saw a micarta County Cousin on Queen's site , but doult the design much,

Seems to be a pretty hard question ..

Around here there are some pictures of sod buster type knives that have been modified by their owners to give more grip to the handles. Also, Case just came out with an amber bone Sod Buster Jr. Those are about the same size as the Bull Nose, maybe a tad shorter.

Take a look at the GEC #72. Same size with a drop point blade. Think you can find single spey versions as well? Anyways the frame is the same length and they seem to be very similar in shape. You can sometimes find them here on the X or the bay for very reasonable prices.

Why don't you just replace the covers on your bullnose with natural materials?

I really think GEC would have a winner if they did some rustic looking bone on the bullnose as an option. I have a 72 and it doesn't fill the hand as comfortably as the bullnose.

You can pick up one of these from Mike Latham (knifeswapper) over at www.collectorknives.net (paid BF sponsor dealer). It has a spey blade that nicely fills in for the Bull Nose blade. It is Mike's SFO Farmer Jack. The knife is 3 3/4" closed with a 3 1/16" 1095 Spey Blade. It's a bit fancier that the Bull Nose or sodbuter what with it's ringed bolster and match-strike, long pull.

Ditto... I don't get it. Sometimes I wonder if companies fear giving us just what we want in anticipation of us making no future purchases searching for the "one".

DING DING DING, we have a winner ;)

Look at how fast the champlins went with a coping second. Have a feeling the tidioutes will do the same. More people want a straight and bellied combo but the manufacturers dont listen. Can not begin to count all the posts I have read of someone wanting a soddie with nice covers. Here we are telling them what it would take for us to throw our cash at them....

Really, a shadow pattern with a throwback rivet style pin.....

Ed, I've looked at those farmer's many times and really came close this week. Then the new boys knife came out.... May still end with one of those farmers one day.

Let's all protest GEC, and swear off of them until we get this knife! . . .anyone?

A G Russell Cowboy or Rancher.
This folder is perfect in the hand and in the pocket.

I'll second the SFO Farmer Jack. I'm a big fan of the single blade #73 and it's droppoint blade. Also, Mike has the following jack listed as upcoming from GEC. 2 blades but its still got the bullnose blade...

#72 Jack, Bullnose blade/pen blade, no lock, no lanyard tube

Tidioute – smooth bolster
Jigged bone – color to be determined
Wood – type to be determined

Northfield – lined bolster
Jigged bone – color to be determined
Wood – type to be determined
Burnt Stag

Probably 1095 as they'll be Tidioute and NF. I believe only the 'GEC' branded knives have used steel other than 1095.
