Posting this just to kind of distract myself today after the events in Vegas. So here goes. Years ago I used to fly fish a particularly productive tributary to Lake Ontario for fall/winter brown trout and steel head, with the occasional rainbow thrown into the mix. It did have a salmon run but after breaking a rod by hooking one up I decided to leave them be and concentrate on the other species mentioned above.

So head over one fine cold Sat. a.m. just after sun rise as I recall, ok more like 8:30 a.m. or so but still pretty early! Now this is going back more than several years probably more than 10 yrs to be sure. Anyways arrive there and as usual not anyone around save for yours truly. So the first thing I do is check a "hole" for fish. Have some good polarized glasses on and can see big male browns swimming around and harassing each other along with some other fish. So getting my 5 wt. Orvis ready to go with a nice rabbit hare's nymph a sz.14 which is mostly what I used on this creek. Trying to decide if I am going to go down stream or up and work from what end to another. Glance to a tree on my right and there stuck in the tree is a folding knife. Stuck right in it the crotch of the tree which is a thorn apple tree that is still there last time I was over there several yrs ago. Holy crap I says that is a nice looking folder. Pull it out and can't believe the knife someone left there. Now I look around and find a very nice pair of long needle nose pliers on the ground right at the base of the same tree. I still use them to this day.

I've enclosed pics of the knife too. So hang around pretty much all morning fishing in the general area and am catching some good looking browns, mostly males, that frankly pretty much just bull dog the bottom when you hook one but fun on a lighter wt. fly rod. Stay as I recall till past 1 p.m. and leave. Fishing was so good though I go back and do the same thing Sun. and pretty much till the creek freezes over for the winter. Yep fishing was that good from Nov. until the end of Dec. till freeze up for years. Now not so much, so go figure.

So the knife I will leave it to you all to decide as for a real Sebbie or what. I carried it a bunch for a couple of years and then put it in my sock drawer and then somehow it found its way to my underwear drawer in the same sock. No one ever came back as far as I know and I was over there a bunch fishing that creek. Matter of fact I fished that creek for 20 yrs or so with great success but as stated not so much now and the DEC can't really tell me why.

As for the knife itself I just rediscovered it a week or so ago and noticed that the blade has light stains on it but other than some marring on the handle slabs the functionality is perfect. It has the typical old school CRK bearing system for the pivot and is as smooth as a babies behind on opening and closing. Sharpened it up a wee bit and the steel feels like ats34 to me with the type of edge it takes and with the light staining you can sometimes get with ats34. I could be all wrong about that though. I do know that I changed the pocket clip on it for a real Sebenza clip I had lying around and it fits perfectly. I have the original clip too, but as I recall I flattened it out cause it was hanging up on stuff when I carried it. The slabs are non magnetic and the wooden accents are seamless and haven't loosened at all. So hey beats me but happy I rediscovered it in my sock drawer. I was actually looking for a Mitch Rosen belt slide holster which I couldn't stand and was looking for something to tinker with and thought I would store my .45 in the holster wrapped in news print to stretch it for a couple of days. Which I did and now it works as it should so it is nice and easy to take the gun in and out. Ok basically thats it on the story of the knife. I should also note that I am a firm believe in Karma and like I said I went back fishing the stream thinking maybe someone would show up. They didn't.

This is the same stream where I lost a nice mini Commander the day I got it and stripped down to my skivvies and hip boots to find it! Yep it was in November. So a little distraction from todays events. keepem sharp

Stainless even s35vn or s30v will rust. That's what stainless means. Stains less.

Also crk do not run on bearings as you put it.

I dunno if it's a real or not. I would not forget the legit knife in the wild. So it's possibly a fake. Take it apart. I think you'll see a engraving of a V or something like that if it's real.

Not all bearings are ball bearings! I think OP just meant the washers.

It doesn't run on bearings per say but has a "bearing" or collar I guess you could call it that goes around the pivot that fits inside the actual hole the blade rotates around. It has highly polished bronze washers too. There are 0 marks on it whatsoever. Kind of forgot about it like I said til I just happen to be rummaging around my drawer for the Mitch Rosen holster. Matter of fact I found another folder too, that my wife bought for me in Davo's Switz. at the Klotzli store. A little super light weight clip point with one liner that frankly although made very well as far as grinds etc. runs on nylon washers that frankly isn't in the class this knife mentioned above is in. I don't know, found it, so free to me and like I said I am still using the long needle pliers that were on the ground by the tree too. keepem sharp.

PS I'll post pics of it along side my Sebenza 21 when I get a chance.

I believe knives don't grow on trees.
So that's mighty nice pickings to say the least.
It's awfully fishy for the last owner to have left it behind that way.
Be it fake or not, you can still count yourself lucky with a pretty good catch.
May incompetent carelessness continue to reward the most deserving lucky finder.
Enjoy the knife and do care for it.

Great story. I enjoyed the read.
The inlays stood out to me. They look to "slick" and shiny if that makes sence.
I think finding a a tree that grows knives is way cooler than finding a knife :D

Great story. I wonder if the person that left it put in the tree crotch or someone else did thinking it would be easier to ind if they came back?

Nice find however. Most of the needle nose pliers I find or in my fishing vest and if they have been there a while unused, they are often a bit rusted and in need of some lubrication to loosen them up to use effectively.

It would take a hell of a knife for me to strip down in November in Ontario to wade into a cold flowing stream for a knife.
