A friend asks, "Lemme hold yer knife a minute." What's your response?

If they have a baby, then I ask to hold it. If they drop my knife, I drop their kid.

But seriously, I say "ok, but please be careful"

I say "Here", as I hand them the cheapy I carry for this specific purpose.

Most of my friends appreciate tools, are competant with tools, and understand that a knife is a tool, so without hesitation I will give it to them.

I don't usually have a problem with it… either they're not knife people, in which case they're cautious with it and hand it back for me to close, or they are knife people and they know what to do and how to respect the knife.

This thread made me realize that we all tend to be less-than-swift when handling a new, unfamiliar tool. Think about the difference between getting into your own vehicle, and getting into a rental car when you first drive it out of the rental lot.

It is probably better to avoid lending any knife. If it's a folder, open it for them and hand it to them handle first, and tell them you'll close it for them when they're done. And do ask them what their plan is.

I already carry an EDC plus a small-bladed 'sheeple' folder. And now I have to carry a cheapo 'lend' knife as well? Where does it end?
