A friend invented an accessory that fits any spyderco that allows u to open it on your pocket, he said he reached out to spyderco and they were cool with it and if anyone is interested in checking it out pm me and I'll track down his website for u, I don't have it in front of me or I'd post myself

In the mean time I'm looking to get into spyderco and I was wondering if some of the fans could make some suggestions

So its like the zip tie wave mod?
Exactly what I was thinking. This guy's friend must be pretty rich if he's the man who invented zip ties!

Joking aside, it's not really my thing -- I'm perfectly happy with the good ol' spydiehole.

I have made various designs to attach to knives, both spyder hole and thumb studs, to wave open the knife. People have been doing so since the 80s with zipties and wires.

Still, I would be curious to see his take on the mod.

Probably the one someone posted on the Spyderco factory forum a week or so back, a Kydex "wishbone" that goes over the spine, covers the Spyderhole, and is secured by a screw. On the plus side, it's removable. Downside is that while it's mounted you're trading the most reliable opening device made, the Spyderhole, for a really poor thumb stud unless you use the wave.

Wow, is your friend's name Ernest Emerson? :D

Hey baby, is that an opened Spyderco in your pocket or are you happy to see m... Oh Dear God, it is!

Um, why would I want to open it on my pocket?

Some folks find that this offers a quick deployment of the knife. Bascially and hook-like portion of the back of the blade catches your pocket as you pull the knife out. You may want to google "Emerson Wave" which will describe the feature in more detail.

Thanks, I figured that out after that post. Last week I didn't know what the wave was for, now I do. I think I'm happy enough with my spyderhole, I don't have the ninja-like knife skill to be whipping my knife out of my pocket like that.

Every time I've had someone demonstrate wave opening, I've noticed that their pants pocket was torn to shreds. That's not a tradeoff I like. But then I don't like pocket clips either.
