A friend wants to buy my basic 5, whats it worth?

I have a Busse Combat Basic 5 that I bought from the factory reps when they came here years ago. It is mint in the box, never cut anything, never sharpened. Has a yellow flyer that came with the knife explaining its features, box even looks in nice shape as long as I've had it. Black res-c handle, black crinkle coat finish. Nylon sheath with two eyelets at the bottom and kydex liner. I could post pics when I get a chance, but its a pretty standard basic 5. It's been in my little safe all this time as I couldn't afford to mess up such an expensive knife. Now a friend has shown interest, but I don't know what it is worth. I saw a basic 3 close on ebay recently for $150, and someone in the selling forum just sold a 9 for i think $250. I thought that it would be worth more than that. I don't remember the exact price, but I'm sure that I paid more than $150 for it. If it will buy me a nice lens for my camera, then I can't afford to keep it... but if it's not worth much then I would rather hold onto it. What is something like this usually go for now?
Thanks In advance
jeremy

I'm not sure on the price, but from everything that I've heard the 5's seem to be among the rarer of the basics.

Good luck in your decision!

I sold one for $225 about 6 mos. ago.

The 9 that was sold was mine. Note that it was used. If it were new in box, I probably would have asked a good chunk of change more.

Really? I though that the 5 was the most common? I thought that the 3 was the rare one. I wanted ot buy a 3 when I got this one, could carry it legal, 5 is too long, but my uncle talked me into getting the 5. Actually the one that I wanted had a micarta handle, they said that it was a prototype, not a production piece, shouldn't have walked around the show cause when I came back it was gone  . That one might be worth something huh? So the 3 isn't worth as much as the 5? Or did that seller on ebay take a loss? He got $150 for his. Anybody remember what I would have paid for this? I think that it was 99. I remember reading the hack out of the website and being really impressed. I don't really want to sell this, but like I said if I can sell it to buy a lens that I would actually use... I can't afford not to. I dont want to kill the guy, but if I'm gonna part with it I want to get what its worth, ya know?
Thanks for the help guys.

5 ARE the most common, but they also seem to be least available these days?
Even the rarer Euros are coming up more often than these things.
Since you have the box and papers, I don't think $250 is unreasonable.

I think it depends on how good a friend he is. I would always cut a good deal for a friend, but I am a big softie.:D

Welcome to the BF Busse forum! I'm a big fan of the Basic series, and the 5 is the hardest one to find. You will have no trouble getting $250 for a new one.

Mike, I'm also your friend. I also am a big softie, or I actually like the term "fluffy" better. :p :D

What can you do to help a brother HOG out in the NO-E or BM-E department? :D

The least avail because they actually get used. I wouldn't sell mine on a bet.

The 5 is the best of the Basics.
