Ok, the economy is going into crapper, people are loosing jobs and look for alternatives. So don't leave anything in your cars. My car got broken in last night because it had a sleeping bag in the back seat from my last trip. They didn't take much because I didn't really have anything in the car. But I'm out of my MOLLE vest, a sleeping bag and an empty flask. However I'm leaving town tomorrow for a few days and its suppose to rain this week. Plus now I need to get rid of all that broken glass on my back seat and then go and get it fixed. Its annoying to say the least.

So just stay vigilant, and stay safe.

Thank the stars you did not have lots of expensive gear in your car too. The broken window is a pisser for sure.

Yeah the damage to me is minimal (although I'm tight on cash as it is). Just wanted to remind everybody that this kind of stuff does happen.

That sucks :grumpy:

Glad you didnt lose a lot.....sometimes I'll get a mental remidner walking away from my car to make sure everything is out of sight. How sad we have to be concerned with people breaking into our cars.

Sorry to read this but glad you are safe and didn't lose much.
I keep kits in my rigs, but the are kept out of sight and are filled with my cheaper gear. I have to add that I insure my rigs heavily since I carry tools most of the time.

Same thing happened to my MIL last night while parked in front of our house. Sucks when your trust is violated. I hope everything works out for you, brother.

Sorry to hear about that Bro!!! Thank goodness you didn't have a lot in there... Sucks to loose what you had, but---

Really sorry to hear that, and it seems to be more and more common. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood, and yet we've had multiple car breakins, at least three attempted home robberies, and one stolen car, all within our little community of 60 or so houses. It's pretty insane. I'm glad to be getting out of this neighborhood, although who knows whether my next one will be any better.

My mom's house was broken into on Christmas day while she was having dinner with us 5 miles away. I know these things have become pretty much an epidemic, but it takes a special kind of person to rob an old lady on Christmas. They did not get a whole lot, and the insurance will probably cover most of it, but it did more damage to her comfort level than anything.

Thanx guys.

As I said the times are hard so naturally the criminal element is gonna activate. A few simple precautions would go a long way to deter it. I'm mostly pissed off about the broken car, but then again few weeks ago on the same street some one messed up my passenger door by most likely just backing into it, and ran.

That's just plain sucks, glad they didn't take much.

Sorry to hear. Some places, if there is anything in your car, even a towel or sweater, they break in just in case it might be covering up something more valuable.

Clunker Math

Think of it this way:

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.
So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption
by 320 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars.
So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.
We spent $8.57 for every dollar we saved.
I'm pretty sure they will do a great job with our health care, though.

skunk that is good stuff, never looked at it from that prospective, looking at it from a simple standpoint, folks get welfare, food stamps, wic, housing, etc, all free now, so what is the big deal about healthcare, can't ask for any more free than that, after all free is free!!!
