Hey all,
I stopped by a local gun/pawn store Friday, and found a couple fun little Bucks.
This is the old, dusty, dingy type of store, that likely hasn't been cleaned or organized since the 90's. You have to walk around it 10 times just to see everything. It kind of puts you in mind of the old gun and outfitters store that the "Wolverines" raided in the old Red Dawn movie, just never cleaned or dusted since the original showing.
Anyway, I noticed 2 old Buck boxes under a pile of newspaper and dry rotted leather goods.
They were nothing too special, but 2 new old stock 450BK Protege. In never touched condition, protected by a layer of 25 year old dust.
Short story long they looked fun, and yadda yadda yadda...offered $30 for both, he accepted.
I remember these from the 90's but never owned one. Kind of feels like Bucks "Gerber Gator", or a 112 with a fat super tacky rubber grip. Pretty cool. I've got no use for them of course, but that never stops us, does it?

Awesome find.

Awesome find.
Yeah they seem pretty cool. I wonder if anyone around here had any experience with them or how much they liked them. I can't see them getting any belt time for me, so I'll probably keep one and pay one forward around here on the PIF thread or something.
They both have a backslash \ stamp, so I believe '94?
Little sheaths are pretty decent too.

That is a great find! I’m not familiar with that model but they are cool looking.

About 10 years ago I was in a local area hardware store similar to the one you described and they had a sizable knife display that had mostly been picked over but still some good old models new in box. At the time I was looking for a slim line trapper but none left. If I’d known then what I know now I would have bought the whole lot displays and all. I can’t remember the models they had left but many were probably out of production and hard to find. I kick myself when I think about it. Lol

They are perfect for a blade swap into a 112. I consider the blade shape one of the best drop point designs for a user and I used one for 6 months back in 2012 or so for a EDC. The handle really is comfortable and grippy..Great Buck!

I have one but I've never used it.I bought it at a gun show and the seller couldn't find the box,so he gave me two new sheaths for the 450.One was a 100th anniversary sheath,1902-2002.

I like the 450s. I’m on my second one, lost the first one after several years of use. They feel better in the hand than any of the Bucklites imho and I really like the blade shape. Give one a try, you might be surprised how much you like it.

I love those. My first Buck was one of those. I'd shot all my life but never hunted. My daughter decided to deer hunt. Money was short. I took the classes and got my license. Bought cheap but good gear. I knew two things about hunting knives: 1) "only a tenderfoot thinks he needs a huge knife." 2) Buck. The Buck 450 at Bass Pro was very affordable. She never got a deer but I still have that knife. All of the black rubber wore off and it is red now. A lot of the belly of the blade is gone from many sharpenings. I have prettier knives. But that one was in my pocket yesterday while I worked in the yard.

Right on! It sure seems like a good general purpose, outdoors knife. Real grippy in wet hands.
