My lady has fancied getting her hands on a wool cape for some time now, so whilst I was perusing the interwebs looking for one I stumbled across a reenactment company called Jas Townshend, and a shirt of theirs called a Blanket Shirt.

It's 80% wool and looks pretty spiffy for a piece of reenactment wear!
Here's the picture from the website:

The nice thing is that the Jas Townsend one is only $65.00 instead of $155.00 and their voyager's cap is only $16.00. Duluth is no doubt of higher quality, but also of a higher price tag, so it's nice to know that their are low-cost alternatives out there. Thanks for the links though! You're always like Mary Poppins with a carpet bag full of websites! :D

Duluth Pack is top quality, and that blanket shirt and anorak are authentic patterns. Nevertheless, I like the Townsend blanket shirt myself. A wool shirt is an excellent alternative to a heavy sweater and way better than fleece, and this is a great length to wear under a parka.

Looking around their website, I found an old friend. I've had the exact same Concord mug for many years. This is not a tin cup, it is thick-walled. Pop it into the freezer for a few minutes, take it out and fill it with beer, and it stays cold longer than it takes to drink the beer! :)

I have that Townsend shirt and it is a winner.
The wool is about in the middle on the scratchy scale.

42 - if your lady sews, I can get you some simple line patterns from my old reenactor days.

Thanks! She hasn't gotten into sewing yet--she's just picked up knitting. However she plans on sewing in the future, so one never knows if the patterns could come in handy! :D

If it's an open offer, I just bought a sewing machine myself. Don't know how to use it yet and the wife looked at me like I was nuts when I told her what I was buying but I'm used to that anyways.

great stuff.. i haven't seen either of those before.. i have a few different wool pieces, similar to those, that i wear... both were made by a women named Teresa Asbell... they're top quality at great prices too... i love the pullover's.. http://www.gfredasbell.com/gfa_wool_clothing.php she also make some for these folks too.. http://www.shrewbows.com/wool_shirts/ i have one of the brown longhunter shirts..:)

I have an email into Mrs Asbell about an order. She said she can make 3x & 4x sizes also but they're listed on the site so I need to figure out how to place my order.

Blanket Shirt pattern, along with capote and blankets are available from Northwest Traders.

I've made a few capotes with these patterns, I have the Duluth blanket shirt. It is solid stuff.

I'll try to scan some images tonight and get them posted - or find some links.
