A Functional lanyard I've Been Working On

I've searched for quite a while tryin' to see if anyone has posted anything like this before, to no avail, so at this point I'm takin' credit for it. I'm sure a lot of folks have heard of the knute hitch. It's one of the oldest knots specifically for tyin' a lanyard to a knife. However, with a minor modification, it makes a dandy moveable, chopper lanyard. This moveability is multiplied with the talon holes & tube fasteners on our Busse's. The only difference in mine & the one shown is I use boatswain whistle knots for my stopper knots instead of the plain ol' knot shown.

First up is a diagram of a knute hitch.

Next is it actually tied on a Sar6.

Here's where my lanyard differs.

I add a second stopper knot to the trailing end & pull the trailing end back against the knot to form a loop. It's rediculously simple & can be removed from the knife or moved to any hole you choose.

Edited to add: If someone finds this anywhere else by someone else, please let me know, because up to this point, I'm callin' it a Bowman hitch.:D

Simple and seemingly effective. Will give his a try myself sometime soon.

Looks good to me. I really like the idea mostly because it is simple enough for me to do. I cant tell you how many lanyards i have tried and ended up giving up because by the time i got to page six of the how to tie book i was bored.

Thanks guys! Simplicity is one of the main reasons I had in mind when I came up with this. That, the fact that the knute hitch seems unfinished to me, & the move-ability. If you only had the one piece of cord, you could still theoretically have a lanyard on all your knives, although not at the same time, with just a quick switch. Which in retrospect would probably be appealing to ultra lighters as well.

Oh, and it does kinda make your Busse's look like they have balls too. :D

Another choice is to loop it through as normal (or double the loop back on itself so you can remove it quick) then tie a series of three overhand knots and then a space big enough for your hand to fit through and then a final knot. The three knots give it space to go from the butt to your wrist without strain and then all you have to do is put your wrist through the loop and twist it once or twice. It won't come off. I use this a lot on my machetes and working blades that may need to be used to chop with.

I dont like the way a single strand of paracord digs into my hand. Maybe i have girls hands...

Heres one i came up eih that loops around the band of the hand and around the thumb, very secure and the increased surface area of the weave helps it not dig into the skin

The purpose of the lanyard is to keep from losing the blade. It looks like you are wrapping it around your hand too tight. I don't want all that crap to get caught on stuff when I am traveling. I guess to each his own ......

My daughter's girl scout troop is doing something very similar with their girl scout pocket knifes.

Good Job... it is very cute.
