Anybody have experience with Barney's knives? I recently received a copy of the book, Art of the Knife, and in it are some photos of knives he has made. One in particular caught my eye. It is a replica of a Moran ST-24 with silver wire inlay and a 12 inch blade. It looks to be beautifully made.

By the way, as a coffee table book, I recommend Art of the Knife as one you should pick up. It is hard cover, has hundreds of great photos, and is $23.10 at amazon.com. If you're not into embellished knives, this one probably isn't for you.

Keith, I have a 5 1/2" hunter by A.G. Barnes. It is well made in the style of Bill Moran. Jim Treacy

I Met Barney at this past years Reno show and then spent some more time with him at BLADE. He is one of the nicest people i have met since i began makeing knives. you definately would not be dissapointed with his knives. He is one of the few makers i have met whose knives look as good if not better in person than they do in print.

Keith - I think Barney's work is top drawer if one appreciates the Moran style. I examined a couple of his knives at BLADE this past June and was very impressed. Plus he's a real gentleman, well respected by his peers too. It is on my mind to add some of his work to my collection soon.

I do really like the ST-24 and could never afford one made by Moran. Barney's pricing seems quite reasonable for the level of craftmanship that his knives have. His wire inlay work is amongst the nicest I have seen.

Was introduced to Ag Barnes by Jim Phillips in 94, when he had a much shorter backlog. He made me a 12" ST23 based on the one in Morans first book. Also have a Persian dagger and a few others by him. Glad I got it when the prices were low. Keith, you would not be disappointed in his work, especially his silver wire inlay and color dyeing of curly maple. I would put him right up there with Sentz and Hendrickson.
