Does anyone have one of these or have any experience with one? I want one bad. Pictures Welcome.

I haven't owned a bad knife yet that AG has put his name on. The steel used should be reasonably easy to sharpen and the Micarta scales should be impervious to picking up food odors. This is one I have planned on picking up for myself but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I am about to the point however of wanting a set of cutlery I can use rather than depending on a restaurant's cutlery to be clean, too often I have found forks with food particles between the tines or crusted around tangs on knives.

absintheur makes a good point; i also have visited resturants with dinnerware still holding food particles. although i get tired of my own cooking i defer from eating out much for 2 reasons
getting sick
expense

I have to assume the knife your are talking about is like the Case Hobo. Do you have any pictures?

I get what you're saying about food, restaurants, and silverware but I just don't see myself whipping out a Hobo style knife in a restaurant and digging into my meal. I just ask for another knife, fork, or plate. But that's just my .02¢

If the first set of silverware is dirty then why assume the next will really be clean and somewhat sterile? I have worked in restaurant kitchens, I know what passes for washing when the place is busy. I wouldn't stand up and announce to the entire place "Look out, I am getting out my own knife and fork...watch this ya'll!". But if you opened it sitting down in your chair I doubt anyone would notice...most of us just aren't so interesting that diners will stop eating just to watch us.

Looks like a nice one, needs a spoon though IMO. How are you going to eat your soup, with your hands? That might draw more attention than pulling out a hobo knife. ;)

I have not had the chance to see one in person, but they look really nice in the catalog! A little too steep for me at the moment, but I bet they are very nice. I have a 'regular' Ka-Bar hobo instead at the moment.

I have owned a number of hobo pattern knives and I would say I liked the one made by Mercury (of Italy) the best. I actually got mine from AG not too long ago. It's considerably cheaper then AG's model and the fork tines are curved and the spoon is just like a spoon you might find in your kitchen.

It is very usable and there is a more advanced model available that incorporates a corkscrew, bottle opener/screwdriver and reamer. They only come with aluminum scales, but are priced very fairly. Mercury also makes a line of SAK-like multitools, many of which incorporate a fork and have very nice stag scales. I've been yearning for one and might pick one up soon.

Cool looking rig. It would be great to have on a camping trip.

1. Don't order soup
2. Pick up the bowl
3. Order Campbell's Chunky Soup
4. Whittle a spoon

I believe those are made by Canal Street, modelled after the old Ka-Bar pattern (Not positive on this though, think it had to do with the keyhole mechanism). Nice piece fits together like a glove.

It does look very similar to the 1/2 moon trapper

1. I like soup. :)
2. While it works, it tends to draw attention to you in a restaurant. (I said use your hands to make it funnier, I don't know if that worked...)
3. Fair enough, though after the chunky stuff is gone it would require you to pick up the bowl, see my second point.
4. Sure, but that takes time and if in a restaurant, I don't think they'd appreciate you using their chair legs for a makeshift spoon.:D

I get what you're saying, there are ways around it but I don't see how a spoon could hurt, maybe make it a little chunkier in the pocket but that's about it. Maybe what we really need is a hobo knife with a spork! Or is that too much...:o

I eat mine with this:
(this might not technically belong in the Traditional forum, but it started life as a traditional Italian style stiletto!)

lol That's awesome, perfect for when your soup's getting cold and there's no time to lose!

I wish Victorinox would make a hobo pattern.
