Purchased the Honcho for my wife's travels. Never had AST34 steel so need info. Used it once (slicing a tomato really thin!) - it's a great blade. The problem is I hand washed it and wiped it off with a dishtowel and left it open over night. The next morning I found multiple rust spots on the blade edge:eek:. Is this normal for this type steel? If so, how best to remove the rust?

One of the best knife steels ,rust spots after it's been cleaned off is not normal ! I suspect some contamination from manufacturing .Use a fine stone or abrasive paper to remove rust and it should be OK.If a stainless steel knife is ground or polished with something that has been used on carbon steel the stainless will pick up bits of carbon steel and rust.

Mete - Thank you - I'm slowly leaving the analog world and entering the digital; the same with new knife steels since AUS 8 (my Kershaw Deerhunter) was my 'newest' steel owned till now with this Honcho and my new Spiderco Kiwi in VG10.
