I received in the mail, last week, my new A.G. Russell order. These are the new Folding Hunter, Gunstock and Sowbelly Trapper. These knives are BIG & BEEFY (up to MASSIVE, for the Folding Hunter). I'm posting a pic of the yellow Delrin models first, the others in Brown Rucarta & Cocobolo will follow later. I'm pretty darned impressed with the fit & finish on these.

Thanks for looking. :)

(The Queen Country Cousin is alongside, for size/color comparison)

Next up, the Brown Rucarta (although it could pass for grey; still looks nice):

And, the Cocobolo:

I'm enjoying taking pics of these. I'm sure I'll take a few more, and I'll post 'em when I do.

Thanks again, all. :)

WOW! great pics! Great looking knives - and they are BIG!

Thanks for the pics, Dave!

I have been wanting to see a photo of the yellow delrin models.

It looks much lighter than I expected. A.G.'s website states that the yellow color is intense so I was expecting something brighter.

The shade of yellow in your photos is what I'm used to and they look great that way.

I'm gonna get one of those Sowbelly Trappers. Just gotta make a decision on the handle material.

Looking very forward to your other pics.

Dave,Thanks for the show & the comparison.Nice picture
So the gunstock appears to be the smaller ?
By any chance did you purchase a sheath that was mentioned inthe catalogue, and if so,is it only for the knives,or is it a stock item ?

Nice picture to show them all together. The hunter does look quite formidable. How do you find action and detent to be on the lockbacks?

The Gunstock, overall, is probably the most 'compact'. Having said that, it's still BIG. The blade is a full 3/16" thick at the spine. Feels great in the hand. I like all of these, but I think the Gunstock will get the most pocket time. It just feels & looks right for me.

I held off on the sheath, as I haven't seen any pics of it yet. I'm assuming, at some point, it'll be a Russell stock item for more than just these models. I'm ordinarily not one to use a sheath anyway, but I might eventually get one sheath for each of the patterns, the big Hunter in particular (thinking it might just feel NAKED without it :p).

The lockup on the lockbacks is rock solid. I think that's what first REALLY impressed me with these. The seam between the lockbar & tang is a perfect, smooth mesh, almost invisible. That's impressive in itself. The thought that went through my mind, as I inspected these, is that an ant might be able to roller-skate across that seam without feeling a bump. It's really smooth.

The closing snap is also inspiring, although I wouldn't call it stiff. It's just firm enough to inspire confidence. And the blades nestle deeply into the handle. So deep, in fact, that the blade on the Gunstock in particular seems just TOO BIG to actually fit. I don't see any chance for the tip poking out, due to incomplete or weak closing.

That was my reaction exactly. Based on the catalog description, I was expecting something beyond what we've seen, in intensity. But, I'm actually glad is wasn't THAT bright. It's just right, in my view.

I should also point out, all three of these patterns provide enough 'purchase' at the nail nick, to allow them to be thumbed open, one-handed (this is quite fun with the big Hunter, BTW). Even the trapper can do it, the backsprings are firm, but not so stiff that it can't be opened this way (if you choose).

Those are some beauties,I'm kind of partial to the Sowbelly. What's the blade thickness on that one?

Looks to be about 7/64" (just under 1/8"), both blades, measured at the tang. I just checked it with a dial caliper. These are the 'thinnest' of the three patterns.

All are great, but i gotta have that gunstock. That thing is killer!I gotta quit hangin' around you guys.:)

Those are pics I've been waiting for. Thanks again, Dave!

Now that I've gotten a good look at them all, I know which one I want.

They all look great but since I can only get one, it's the Brown Rucarta Sowbelly Trapper for me.

 Sounds like a winner! I'm pretty sure you're gonna like it.

Regards.

(I'm finding, as I'm taking these pics, the nice leather fob on these is real handy for moving & repositioning the knives without leaving fingerprints! :p)

Thanks for the great pics. I loved that hunter when I first saw it on the website but when I saw the specs, it broke my heart - it's just too friggin' big!

But, it would make a killer doorstop. :D

I honestly don't know if I'll ever use the Hunter as intended. But, they are beautiful and, at the very least, I know I'll be stylishly prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse (), if/when that day ever comes. :D

Those look really, really nice. I've been wondering about these since I saw them in AG's newsletter and these photos have really helped me decide on which one I might like to try. I'm thinking cocobolo Sowbelly. Thanks for posting these Obsessed with Edges!
