Obviously, I'm not a big knife enthusiast, but I do appreciate decent folders no matter what the cost. After an absence of several years, I recently received an A.G. Russell catalog. I had forgotten all about the "One Hand Knife". What is the general opinion of this knife as a EDC?

I think it's a neat little design. It's fairly light; looks to be ambidextrous. I've considered it, but don't own one because I think there are better options out there at this price point. (Of course the options depend on your preferences/needs.)

Nice knives, originally based on a Pat Crawford design. Pat had a bunch of styles based on that lock, one of the neatest in my opinion was the "Fighting French Folder" -

The story goes that AG liked the design so much, he borrowed ( ;) ) it from Pat, and then paid him off later.

A 80's/90's catalog company called The Edge Company / Edgeco also had a version under the same name. They aren't as well remembered, and can sometimes be found cheap on the secondary.

AG liked Pat's design, bought one at a show, changed one small thing and patented it, cutting Pat Crawford out. It is AGR company's best selling design of all time with many variations. He sent Pat a $5k check after it took off in sales so he could redeem his reputation by saying since Pat cashed the check thus AG compensated Pat for the theft. BS! Pat stopped making his custom version until AG's patent expired.

What's rich is a Taiwanese company copied AG's version and sold it for years in magazines under the name Edgeco as the Tactical One-Hander. Thats the one I have, a clone of a rip-off :) Great knife, no clip, but it disappears in the pocket. I got mine almost new at a gun show for $25 and the guy was selling the AGR version, beat-up, about 5 tables away for 125.

I'd love to have Pat's Assasin version and have come close to getting it a few times, 4" of slim death.

Great EDC knife, albeit a bit stiff on the opening. But it really shines as a presentation gift, engraved with a special message. Many years agoI was given the full size, engraved with “ Happy 40th.” Years later, I bought 2 of the small models and had them identically engraved with a biblical verse, “ Choose Life”. It is from the Torah portion read by my Son at his Bar-Mitzvah, Deuteronomy 30:19. Moses‘ last speech to his people before he dies and they enter the Promised Land, “ I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse, therefore choose life, that thou and thy seed may live.”). My Son got one and I kept the other. A joint remembrance of that special day.
