Knife is on the cover of the latest catalog and their website, pretty much like everything about this knife except I've never heard of "DM-1" steel??

A.G. showed that knife to me when I visited the shop. It's an amazingly functional piece. Everything seems to be thought of with that knife.

I wouldn't worry about the steel. If A.G. says it's good it probably is. He's got a lot more experience in that field than I do. Besides.....if you buy it and end up not liking it for whatever reason they'll take it back if you're the original buyer.

It should look, act and, smell, taste. and sound like "carbon V", though it's actually DM1. :)

From Mr. Russell's website:
In our search for this superior steel, we were presented with the opportunity to acquire a batch that had been developed for a firm who filed bankruptcy and went out of business. We worked with Dan Maragni, the very talented knife-maker/metallurgist who developed the original steel, to develop a special heat treatment for our use. We even re-built salt bath vessels and quench tanks to accommodate the precision hardening of this steel to give us the best possible toughness and edge retention. Our designation for the steel with this special heat-treat is DM-1.

Thanks, it would be the most I've ever spent on one knife, but it's like the blade I've been picturing in my head for awhile, just landed on their catalog cover!

I like that knife a lot. Great design and it comes with the Best warranty out there.
