I am tempted to buy the hunter version but I cant find anything about the quality of the blade material or fit and finish. Can anyone chime in and give me their opinion on this knife before I purchase it?

I don't own one but I believe they are quality knives. AG Russell is a solid company and Dan Maragni knows steel and heat treat better then most. DM-1 = O170-6C = Carbon V
I like the design but a bit out of my price range.

Thanks for the feedback.

AG Russell makes good knives. Some are not USA made but I owned a folder and was impressed with it...

simple steel's are a pro if you intend to use it really hard, as simple steel tends to be tougher than high alloy steels, but that of course depends much on the actual carbon %, and the heat treatment used...
Russell, I would expect is good in that area.

The con is rusting. Not a problem if you keep the edges oiled or waxed. The DLC is generally rated as one of the best ways to perma-coat high carbon steels and protect them from rust. It's baked right in... if you plan to baton a lot of wood, expect that some will scratch off, requiring the above-mentioned oil/wax to re-protect it.

There are about a thousand posts on BF where real experts talk about the pros and cons of simple carbon steel, don't take my very simple summary as the end word.
