I have added to my collection of A.G. Russsell Sting boot knives. Since every Sting is stamped on the ricasso A.G. Russell 1977. The Sting was one of A.G. Russell most popular designs and there were a lot of them made. According to A.G. there are two ways to tell if your Sting was produced in 1977, The oval stamp on the blade is blank in the middle and the other way is if Russell is spelled, with only one L on the ricasso. I also purchased the point of sale display card when I purchased the India Stag scales handle one. I am not sure when the stamp was changed and Springdalle AR. was put in the middle of the oval

I want to thank all you knife nuts for the good feed back on my Sting collection. I still have a few more I want to add, (1). A.G. said there are a few Damascus out there, less than the 50 stag handle I looked for that baby for over three years. Also I would like to have one with a green micarta handle.

Very Impressive!!! Loved the knife when I first bought one at a garage sale. I have seen a older post from you that said you can date the knives from the length. I would kindly appreciate if you could post this information again please. Also I have a Sting 1 and a Sting two would the value of the knives drop in value if professionally sharpened? Both in Mint condition factory edge is dull as ever. Would love to be able to use one on SPECIAL OCCASIONS! Lol I do have the CKRT STING BUT JUST NOT THE SAME KNIFE AS THE GERMAN MADE ONES!!!
Thanks,
Sting Fan Dave

I bought two Stings out of the A.G.Russell catalog ca. '78-80, one wood, one Ivory Micarta. I still have the Ivory Micarta, with Springdale Ark. USA, AG Russell & Solingen Germany on the oval mark. Cool little knife, I've thought of selling it off & on over the years, but it is kinda hard to let go of.

I have had a AG Russell "sting", stainless steel and I believe a rosewood (may be incorrect about the handles), in it's original sheath. Thinking about trying to trade it for some modern and very needed gear. It's one of those "pretty" knives that I don't want to use for fear of ruining it. Which is why I only have a couple of pretty blades.
