A/G Vantage...

I saw an Alaskan Guide vantage today on a certain website. We all know which one that would be. I couldn't believe my eyes because I thought it was so cool to have the vantage in the A/G line up (in large and small), and it looked awesome. But....in the large model description, it had that unpleasant word "imported". I'm really hoping this was a misprint because it was not in the small version's description.

Please tell me these are made in the USA...

I've never heard of them being made anywhere else. I only have one and it's made in the US. That's why I was so surprised to see that. I'm really hoping it was an error...

I don't see imported anywhere . That model is USA knife with S30V.

Confirmed made in USA. Cabelas website

This was copied from their site...the last word threw me off. I know the vantage model is definitely made in the US.

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Vantage Folding Knife by Buck Knives features a comfortable wood handle and a fine-edged, drop-point blade crafted of extremely strong S30V steel made of metallic powders fused together under intense pressure and heat, then tempered under extremely high temperatures and cooled in a cryogenic freezer. The resulting metal delivers a fine combination of edge retention, flexibility and hardness (59-61 Rockwell) while remaining easy to sharpen with conventional stones. This steel also has a high chromium content for oxidation resistance. Equipped with a liner lock for safety a pocket clip for convenient carry. Imported.

You can discuss stuff about a knife's construction or description. You can hint at where you read something or saw something that needs questioned. You can ask others to look at a knife you think is a fake and its location. But, come back and say you were wrong or right after the discussion has led to a conclusion. You can't just throw rocks and then run away.

You can't talk about any costs. You can talk about a knife you bought and how much after a auction is over on _bay. On catalog sites you can say you got a good deal on a national catalog site for a knife. You can say it was above or below Buck Knife's catalog price. And you can say if anyone is interested in details send you can send a email or PM. Even the dealers offering modified Buck knives, who have BladeForum dealer memberships need to do ordering and pricing business on their own website, not on this forum. All that is only slightly troublesome but still gives plenty of ways to share info and offers.

This forum is not a selling forum it is a knife forum, the Buck Knife only forum, so there has to be a line drawn in the sand. Its just a line that wiggle's a little.

Is that where you saw the knife advertised?

I thought you were talking about a particular eBay auction, which is frowned on.

300Bucks can clarify but I thin it is legitimate to discuss non-Bladeforums sponsoring vendors in the context of discussing Buck SFOs made specifically for that vendor, just so long as you don't "deal spot".

Can't discuss the Buck Slimline with discussing that it's a Walmart SFO, nor the AG 110 without mentioning Cabellas. That's my understanding of the rules.

Gotcha. Thank you for the clarification guys. The description I shared earlier was from the world's foremost outfitter. They have the vantage in their Alaskan Guide line up, so it should be available only from them. The knife is listed as new to the product line. I just thought it was very odd that in that description, the little word "imported" popped up at the end. I was just wondering if anyone else saw it and could offer clarification since I never in a million years would have thought it was from anywhere other than the USA. Price is irrelevant, so I hope I'm within the guidelines. I don't usually start threads about new products, so I wasn't sure exactly what I could talk about or what names I could use.

will the fit and finish reflect it's price point? last two vantages I tried from amazon were at the level of a 15$ Junk knife unfortunately....definitely not reflecting it's 100$ price point, especially when compared to the competition....I love the design, would have love a force a pro, but will have to stick with my exceptionally near perfect regular Avid and Pro....

Don't really know. It seems people really like the other models in the AG line, so maybe there's a little more attention to detail. There's always hope because I want to love the vantage. I got a select and the fit and finish wasn't good at all as so many of us have experienced. I sent it back to Buck and it's really good now, but it's still a select. I love the way the AG looks so I hope it's a well put together piece. If it's American made I'll get one...

meh, I'd would have liked to like it sort of speak, but I has the same dual handle scales......it's kinda gimmicky in not a good sense, a turn off of sort..... To me it's a damn shame, the design has so much going for it, it's like a Buck «sebenza'ish» in it's overall shape.

I remember getting my first Vantage, a pro at their first run sometimes prior to 2008 I believe? The Store had 3 specimens and I had to opportunity to pick the nicest of those. Mine is near perfect in all honesty. Then I also bought a select in paperstone, I kinda regret gifting it away, but I t had served my well by that time :) earlier this year I was lucky enough to score a Charcoal diamondwood Avid and that one is pretty nice as well, not as well fitted and finish, but damn decent!

I like Buck, and have many of their fine products in my collection, a user collection still. I just want to see the fit and finish been on par with some of their price point....after returning the second Vantage force pro to amazon, I instead got, for 9$ over, a Spyderco lightweight Manix2 with a crazy S110V blade....the fit and finish is virtually perfect...as it should be! I'd like for Buck to shine just as good in that regard! that really is my underlying point.

I talked to Buck and they say it is USA made. I saw the ad that says Imported but it is inaccurate.

That's some good work by you Makael! I definitely appreciate the effort. You probably made a decision a lot easier for people. At least for me. I think I'll have to give one a try. I've never handled any of the AG series, but I get the impression people really enjoy them. I'm hoping the fit and finish is better than the average effort on the vantage line.

I have the AG 110. The finish, ti nitrated like, as a nice hue to it. Can't go wrong with the AG line. If I were a fishermen, I wouldn't think twice about getting the fillet one.

I was thinking about the 110, since it's my favorite knife. I always have the dilemma of getting a new version of a knife I love or trying another pattern altogether. With the vantage, I have a select and would like to give a better version a chance. I'm so wary about the fit and finish issues with them though...

I understand that, both Cabela's and Buck have excellent customer service, if you're not satisfied they will take care of you. It's a hassle but you will get what you want. Best to you, Preston.
