There is a real gem in the middle of the urban sprawl of northern Virginia. Prince William Forest Park, one of our National Parks. 25 mi²/16,000 acres. Made a visit this morning and midday. I drive by it every commute to and from work. Sometimes I stop. Today I walked part of the South Valley Trail along the South Fork of Quantico Creek.

Yes, people fly fish both the South Fork of Quantico Creek and Quantico Creek. Since most of its watershed lies with in Prince William Forest Park, the water quality is high.

Handsome country LegHog. Maybe keep an eye open for arrowheads around the water/banks. They tend to wash out after flooding.

and meditation

What type of meditation do you practice Joe ? Reading Sam Harris and watching his podcasts have turned me toward Mindfulness, and my current read is ''WHEREVER YOU GO THERE YOU ARE''.....Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Illegal to take them from National Parks.

There's a bunch of cool stuff to see in the Prince William Forest National Park. The crescent truss foot bridge pictured above was first built by the CCC. Many CCC projects in the park. Then during WW2 the park was the home of the Office of Strategic Service (OSS) secret Camps A (Advanced Special Operations training) and C (Communications training). There's also a long defunct/closed pyrite mine too.

But removing artifacts, including arrow heads, is illegal.

Gotcha. I have a National park up here were I KNOW that I could detect the lake and walk out with a boat load of gold and silver rings. But it's the same here, nothing can be taken out......For many years as a child/youth I lived close to camp X in southern Ontario. There are many fascinating sites close to us, that most don't know about. I believe that many of the original OSS officers received training at camp X. And their core later became the CIA, if I remember correctly.

And on the other side of a hill were I was a kid, there was a boys reformatory. It's original use was to house German POW's during W.W.2. It was a pretty large facility.
