In the beginning of January, plk7 unexpectedly sent me a almost new small tinker. This was a very big surprise, but a bit spooky, because I had been missing a 84mm SAK since I gave my recruit away to the grounds keeper where we stay in Key West. I had been almost to the point of pulling trigger on a new recruit when a small package arrived in the mail. The small tinker is the same size as a recruit, but with the phillips driver and awl. Definitely a step up.
When it arrived, I was in the midst of trying out the Leatherman Micra, so the new small tinker sat for a bit, but then when the micra experiment was over, the tinker was pressed into the daily rotation. So far, it's been great.
I like small. To a life long backpacker, small is good, and I'm almost psycho on the subject. If Ihave a choice between two objects, both functioning at their intended task, but one is smaller/lighter than the other, I'll go for the smaller one. I even carry a golf pencil for notes, instead of a full size writing tool. I go for compact binoculars or even a monocular, to save weight/bulk. Button compass in an Altoids emergency kit instead of a regular size. So a small tinker fits my personal frenzied mantra of how small can we go? Remember, I'm the guy who carried a Case peanut as my heavy duty edc pocket knife. My regular pocket knife was a Vic classic!
So far, the small tinker has proven to be capable of everything the regular tinker takes care of.
Thank you, Prashanth!
