A giant Pygmy disappointment?

I just got an e-mail from Knife Centre showing the Pygmy Warrior coming with a cordura sheath. The Spyderco on-line catalogue shows it coming with a kydex sheath. Please, please ,please somebody, tell me that the catalogue is correct! I think Spyderco makes a huge blunder with their large Warriors by only selling them with cordura sheaths. It cost me way too much money to have a custom kydex sheath made for mine. In my opinion it would be an intolerable slap in customers faces to make us wait so long for the Pygmy and then compound the aggravation by bringing it out with a cordura sheath. The Pygmy is obviously a city knife that calls for inside the waistband or front pocket carry. In fact this is how I carry the large Warrior.

If they add a factory kydex sheath it will just be more expensive to begin with instead of you having to spend extra to have one made.

Why is this one so obviously a city knife? It's a fixed blade blade with serrated back edge. It certainly doesn't scream "carry me into the city!" to me.

Several other dealers and the 2014 Spyderco Catalog say: "custom-molded Boltaron® sheath equipped with a versatile G-Clip attachment".

IDK, it might appeal to those itching for the chance to deanimate a mugger.

The Pygmy comes with a Boltaron sheath, set up for point draw. the H1 Warrior comes with a cordura sheath at the request of the designer for that version. We'll probably change that in the future.

Thanks very much Sal. My heart dropped when I saw the knife centre e-mail but it's all good now. I'm also happy to read that you may be bringing out the Warrior with a boltaron sheath in the future. I have the original bright blade Warrior but I like the design enough to consider buying the black blade version in the future if I wouldn't face the added expense of buying a custom sheath.
I hope you're still considering bringing out a folder version of the Warrior as I think you indicated in the past.
[ I'm also looking forward to the Tatanka which looks like it'll be my second favourite Spyderco folder after the Szabo]

Heard some good things about the sheath from someone who was given a Pygmy, pre-release, for evaluation.

I actually like the Spec Ops sheath for the Spyderco Warrior. I've thrown the sheath and knife in the dishwasher, no problems.

Does anyone else think this'd make a good dive knife? I just wish it was in H-1.

Might take some research to find now (discontinued), but the Spyderco Caspian is up there as an ideal diving knife for me. I've taken it white water rafting and snorkeling. The index finger hole allows me to open my hand and not lose the knife (still should be careful though). Also, the Caspian sheath provides a lot of mounting options, even just to strap it to your leg. I would however use rubber straps instead of the nylon straps it comes with for diving.

I guess that's my point. They've discontinued the caspian, but have nothing new to fill the void for a small, fixed-blade dive knife that has both a plain and a serrated edge. The too-big-for-rec-divers warrior is in H1, so why not the pygmy warrior?

Well, I hope you find a caspian in the 2nd market or elsewhere. They do pop up now and then.

Otherwise, I think the spyderco warrior is also a good size. You should probably wait for an alternate sheath or get a custom sheath for better mounting.

Did Knifecenter write about a cordura sheath in the mail or are you referring to this strange Pygmy Warrior picture that also is found on their webpage?
