Alright guys I need your help. Recently my girlfriend has been getting real antsy when it comes to going out to her car alone and she wants a nice little folding knife. I've already outfitted her with mace and she has been trained extensivly in self defense by me. Also she's not small at 6"1' and 145lbs! She's actually taller than me!

I think she really wants to use it as a tool more than self defense but you never know. Any suggestions? Many thanks.

VHD, what is your price range? For folding "Tactical" knives over $100 I would recommend the Emerson CQC series, but the Commander model is my pick. From Benchmade, any of their folders are good, my pick would be the new folder with the Axis lock. From Microtech, the Socom and Mini Socom are my picks. COld steel folders are also good for the money. Well, these are some of the models I use. I have never had any problems with them.

I just purchased a benchmade axis lock and it is a real easy folding knife to flip out. With a little practice,it can be drawn out nearly as fast as any automatic. As for price, they can be expensive($150+). If you check out some internet knife suppliers, you can find one for about $110. I hope this is some help.

VHD, I know you said you were interested in a folder, but you ought to take a look at the Chesapeake Bay khuk. It's a very nice 9" khuk, which could be carried easily in a purse, glove compartment, or briefcase. Uncle Bill has posted a picture of it one another thread; maybe you ought to let your girlfriend check it out. You never know, it might be the very thing that turns her into a real khuk knut herself.

In Nepal and India Yangdu carried a 9 inch khukuri taped to the inside of her thigh. She used it on the night from Kathmandu to India with good success. She never had to draw blood. Just showing it along with the determination to use it did the trick.

Hey guys, thanks for your help. One of the worst things I've ever heard happened after I showed my girl the knives from benchmade. She took one look at the blade and said," Is that a butterfly? Ohhh, I want one!" I just couldn't belive it!

My price range is about as much as $200 if anyone has anymore suggestions. Thanks again.

VHD, if your girlfriend likes a butterfly on the knife, then just ask Uncle if one of the Kamis could engrave a butterfly on the blade of a 12" Sirupati or any other Khukuri filling the size criteria. A modified sheath made of kydex could be made similar to the JSP carry systems.

how bout a spyderco harpy? it small, its not too expensive and the blade on that thing is Nasty...

Was the butterfly a mark on the blade, or your knife was a balisong?
If a Kobra is made to a balisong, it's a GIGAfolder! I have one of such kind of balisong (not from BM) with 15" blade, it's awesome and dangerous to everyone including the owner.

If the BM butterfly trademark can be engraved, is it possible to add "Held to higher standard" logo with it? I started my knife collection with BM balisongs and I feel uneasy when I see a butterfly without the logo since then.
