A gift for my son

My 20 year old will be coming home for Christmas. Its a little more special this time as he's been in Nepal for the past 16 weeks studying in an abroad program. I decided to do something custom and personal for him.
I have to admit, I bought an inexpensive finished knife and stripped off the scales and added my own scales of tiger maple. My son isnt a knfe junky so he wont be too hard on it or even care that its an imported production knife. The box is one of my wood fly boxes I make, (same wood) but I put a layered foam insert and cut out the profile of the knife in it and then lined it with black velvet. The knife fits in as if it melted into it. I hope he likes it!

That looks really good. I think he'll love it. I don't know anyone who wouldn't.

That is amazing, and honestly, what a way to show you really thought about him and missed him in his absence.

Thanks for the encouragement! I finished it a few days ago and my wife keeps asking why I havent wrapped it yet and I tell her I'm not done admiring it :) :)
The lettering was done with a wood burning engraver.

That is really nice!! I'd love to see a how to or DIY thread on how you made the box. They both look great I'm sure he'll love it
