A Gift for the Neighbor Kid

My neighbor's son is just home from graduating Marine Corps basic training. This is a kid that has had some problems but seems to have found himself in the corps. I have never seen him so proud. Tonight he shook my hand like a man, not like the limp fish method he used to.

I am very proud of him and what he has accomplished. After combat training and heavy artillery school, he was told he will have an 80% chance of going to Afghanistan.

Anyway, as a graduation gift, I just gave him a Benchmade 4200 that I got a real deal on a few weeks ago. He was excited, and told me that heavy automatics are the most sought after knife right now for the combat troops.

I hope he never is in a situation where he needs to use it in defense, but if he does, I know that it will serve him well.

very nice gift. glad to see the marine corps has made a man of him.

wish him well, ask him to do his best and come home soon.

That's a very thoughtful gift

He deserves it, nice to hear about someone turning their life around and serving their country.

Once a Marine, always a Marine. As a member of the Marine Corps League we support all Marines and FMF Corpsmen past, present and future (through the Young Marines Program). We also help out their families if they should make the ultimate sacrifice. It never ceases to amaze watching the USMC take a wandering boy and return him a dedicated man ready to take his place in the world as an asset to his family and country. Thanks for honoring him on his passage... Semper Fi!

There's just something about giving a Marine a knife that fits.

My housemate is a Corporal whose unit is getting sent to Iraq later this summer. As a graduation (from college) gift and send-off I gave him a pair of Kershaw Leeks (he loves the shape and assisted opening).

Good luck to your Marine. Hope he has a safe tour.
