A friend of mine who is also a regular customer came to the Blade Show this year to meet me in person and hand pick some ivory for a project that he commisioned. While we were there we spotted this piece on a purveyor's table.
Knowing that I am a fan of Dan and Karen's work, he snuck back when he was alone and purchased the piece and presented it to me as a gift! I was floored to get such an incredible gift, and it goes without saying that I will treasure it for a long time to come!
Now of the details. The blade is around 6" long and is file steel, rawhide wrapped bone handle and around 11" OAL.
The sheath is rawhide over latigo leather, braintanned fringe and a quilled wheel. Dan and Karen date the piece to be made somewhere around '95.

John, it's indeed a great friend to give you such a nice gift:thumbup:

Man, all my friends think I'm weird collecting knives...so no gifts like this for me;)

I agree Marcel. I certainly don't get gifts like this often. This was the first, and probably the last time!

Thanks for sharing.

Thats a wonderful gift.

I'm a big fan of Daniel and Karens work. My first year at the Blade Show I hung around their table so long they finally ran me off. I drooled all over his hawks.

I can see some Winkler influence in your work John. Fantastic attention to details especially design and finishes. That cant be easy to accomplish.

Thanks everyone.Robert is a good friend and customer to have indeed. You could'nt ask for a nicer and more loyal guy. Bruce the Winkler/Shook influence is there for sure in my work.It was seeing what they do and being in such awe of it that made me decide to take the path of the frontier style.
