My bestest old Buddy (friends for 54 years now) brought this to me last night. I'm really happy to have this one, it has the correct sheath and is in terrific shape I think. My Buddy didn't like the swivel sheath at all and was going to have a regular sheath made for it.

That is a very generous gift. Sheath is very clean for its age.
I know your pleased Dave. gw

That is a great friend to have. Very nice knife. With friends like that what else could you want in life? HL

Dave, Great friends bring great knives . Try to keep both . I think we determined the swivel sheaths were from, 1973 . Interesting that this fine grain black micarta started showing up on the Empress Trio knives near the same time . DM

dave that knife is great but you know we see them come around a lot
but friends like that dont happen a lot
keep that friend closer to you then the knife!....

Dave,

Nice to have a pal who would give up his 124, and what a sweet knife that is!

What kind of knife is that? It looks kind of like a Buck 119, but the blade is just a bit different and I don't remember them with the bolsters exposed.

It's a Frontiersman (model 124). The last time they were pictured in Bucks catalog was 1996 but they were listed in the 1997 catalog but not shown. About '82 they changed from the Buckarta handles to wood. They still show up occasionally as Limited Editions and I have it on good authority that there is a run coming soon that aren't Limited Editions but will be made for a vendor as a special projects knife (like the 2005 and 2008 General 120's I have). They will probably have either a 2010 or '11 date stamp on them. I have my name in on at least one of them.

He's been a great friend for a lot of years now. I moved to the central coast in 1957 when I was still 14 years old. I started at a new school and hardly knew anyone at all. I got into a scrap with one of the class bullies at lunch one day and when it seemed like I was getting the upper hand, his buddy jumped in and busted me in the mouth. Next thing I know the "buddy" was on the ground getting the poop beat out of him. He was the only one of us that ended up in the nurses office with numerous contusions and lacerations! ;) Larry (my new friend) had just come out of nowhere and cleaned the guys clock.

I'd never met him before that moment and then found out he only lived a few blocks from me. We became best friends from that point on and remain the same to this day. Larry was an only child and I ended up being with him and his parents as much as with my own. There's just not much if anything that we won't do for each other. He was a great leaning post all through my wife's illness.

Great and long lasting friendships are a real treasure for sure.

A man is lucky to have such a friendship. I bet he rides too. :)

Well, he used to. I think his latest wife (#5) made him sell his last bike about 15 years ago. It was an old Panhead hardtail chopper with a suicide clutch and hand shifter. He called that feature his "theft deterant". He said it had been stolen twice and they brought it back both times!:D
