A gift from my Grandfather

My Grandfather gave me this knife a few years before he passed. He was a test engineer for an aircraft manufacturer from the late 50's to the early 80's and made this from stuff he had laying around. The scales are 11 layers of compressed wood, each layer was originally 1.5 inches thick. The blade, well lets just say the same metal was used in space by a 4 letter acronym.

Just thought I would share.

Good post - thanks. Let's all remember to pass along some of our 'keepsake' custom knives to worthy young recipients. It may not mean much to them at the time but the day will come...

Thanks everyone it is something that is kept up for display. My grandfather may have used it but it means too much to me to take on a camping trip.

I'm thinking the blade is a titanium alloy based on the kind of testing he would have been doing.
