Just over a week ago, literally out of nowhere, I was bestowed a gift by John Ferguson (Chief on this forum)that had me totally stunned for words. His generosity towards me, a total stranger, is something that totally blows my mind. It reinforces my conviction that this is really the best forum on the net and the people here are the most considerate and helpful that I can find anywhere. Well today the parcel from John arrived and a beautiful TC Barlow with Ebony covers is in my hands.

It's a real beauty and I'm totally loving it's elegant lines. I daresay that this knife has totally spoiled me. I'm already saving up to buy my next GEC :)
I'm super grateful to John for his wonderful gift and to this forum for allowing me to get to know all of you. There's not much else to say except THANKS!!!!

Linus

Such a generous gift & happy to see you get exactly what you wanted! I've never experienced a forum like this traditional sub forum. Some incredible people here & Chief is one of them!

A very generous and uplifting gesture on John's part, and a fine knife to own. Big congrats to both parties.

Fantastic gesture. That is how I was drawn back into traditional knives. Another member, a stranger, sent me a Northfield #23 Yellow Rose.

An ebony long pull TC Charlow is a GEC grail, let me tell you!

What a great gesture and gift, indeed!

Good on you, Linus! Well done, Chief - a given to a deserving member of our Crowd! :)

This is a knife that will serve you for many decades. (And a great example of GEC´s skills in making a great knife)

In a way, I'm not surprised as there is a lot of altruism here.

Great knife and great works Chief.

Great knife, great gesture. Well done John :)

I remember you looking for that specific knife and suspecting it wouldn't take long for one to turn up.

Congrats on a great knife and kudos to John for a magnificent gesture!

And best of luck in your recovery!

How generous and what a beaut! That's great yatsunil and attawaytogo Chief, best wishes for a speedy recovery!

John's a great guy who has taken the time to teach and instruct me on the finer points of slipjoints and the makers who build them. Very selfless gesture indeed.

A gorgeous knife, and an incredibly generous gift!

Once you start carrying that Charlow, I bet you're going to have a hard time putting it down.

A most generous gift and show of taste and class. Well done, John.

Thanks so much for sharing your joy with us, Linus! I look forward to seeing it patina

Linus - You are quite welcome, may it bring you years of happiness. Never give up your fight "... to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee."

—Moby-Dick, Chapter 135. "The Chase.—Third Day

All - Thanks for the kind words. I have also been touched by the generosity of this forum and am proud to be able to pay it forward.

A huge hats-off to you Chief for your kindness and generosity. Congrats on your new Barlow yatsunil. Those long-pull ebony Charlows are difficult to find, so hang onto that one and enjoy it thoroughly :)

I've been blessed with similar acts of great thoughtfulness from friends and members on the forum. This little corner of BF truly is sort of family-like in the friendships, thoughtfulness and helpfulness of the members here.

Oh buddy, that there is a beautiful knife and an even more beautiful gesture! Definitely a dream knife of my own, enjoy the blade and carry it well.

This forum is very humbling, not enough kind words in our language to describe people such as John, good on you.

A true treasure Linus and a wonderful gesture by John. I had a similar experience when I first started visiting the traditional section. I was also inquiring about finding a TC Barlow and Paul Hilborn graciously offered to sell me one of his, which was also a wonderful gesture to a total stranger. Now I consider Paul a friend. This is a wonderful little piece of the interwebs we have here.
