I attended my first knife show as a Maker back in April 2012. It was the OKCA show in Oregon, It was a great trip with Jonny Mac. I met up with some makers I had already met like Bruce Bump and John Doyle.

I also met some of the great makers that are active here on the forums. One of which was Ben Tendick (BRT Bladeworks). He posted a knife he made here quite some time ago made from what he calls "thunderstorm micarta" It is a Kevlar based phenolic containing gold colored fibers. I had mentioned how cool the material was in the thread. Ben being the great guy he is handed me some scales!!!

I also have a customer named Mike that is a great leather worker, I sold him one of my High Uinta's. He saw that I was an avid SCUBA diver so he made up a sheath from Shark Skin for me.

I have been trying to make myself a personal EDC for quite sometime. for some reason they get sold or given away to family of friends. I decided what better than to use these gifts for my EDC. I have been waiting for Nick Wheeler or Mike Quesenberry to send me a blade to make it a complete package but can only hold my breath sooo long! :D

High Uinta:
Steel: 1/8" Aldo W2 (Hamon)
OAL: 8"
Blade: 3.5"
Handle: BenT "ThunderStorm Micarta"
Misc: Tapered Tang, G10 Liner, Mosaic pin

Ryan, you are just getting better and better. That handle material is indeed special.
Be sure to drop in again next time you are down this way on the trail of a hog.

That came out nice Ryan, it's cool to see that stuff on someone else's knife.
The sheath is very nice too.

Hi Ryan -

Beautiful knife with very clean and pleasingly "organic" lines.

The thunderstorm micarta is reminiscent of lightning strike cf - but it's really nice to have color options with that material!

Very cool knife and leather work - that would be a knife that anyone would be proud to own and use!

Thanks for the pictures.

best regards -

Very nice "EDC", I like these sober, not too aggressive lines. An attractive work on the handle.

I like very much the sheath....

The class in the simplicity!!

Very nicely done! Great use of gifted materials, too! That is almost the exact same blade shape and size as my EDC, so I know it will excel at the days tasks! Out of curiosity, what edge geometry and finish do you prefer for edc?
