A good alternative to the CRKT Hissatsu? Hanwei maybe??

I have a Hissatsu fixed blade. Although I like it, I was wondering if there is an alternative to this for about $100.00 or even a little under? Is there a Paul Chen/Hanwei offering in this range?
I was also trying to find out if there is such a thing as a "wrap" that the novice could cover the "rubbery" looks of the CRKT Hissatsu handle.

Thanks much to all.

Tactical tanto coming out soon may just fit the bill. Haven't seen them in stock yet anywhere, but they should have a batch out soon, and that should be under 100 easily.

I never cared for the Hissatsu kraton/rubber handle material and the lack of a guard. When I lived in FL I used to take orders and customize them. I don't have my shop equipment with me in TN so I have not been able to do any in the past few years.

Love the looks of that!! I wonder what it would cost to have that type of thing done? Wish I could do it myself but no tools and no knowledge are not a good combo.

I used a belt grinder to grind off the kraton. Luckily there are two holes in the tang so I used a dremel with a carbide tool tip to enlarge the back hole to ensure that it is large enough to tie off the Japanese style wrap. On the later models I epoxied a strip of wood on each side of the tang and used the grinder to profile it and adjust the shape to the tang. This gave me a thicker handle to work with.....otherwise it is a little too thin. Then I applied rayskin or sharkskin and did the Japanese wrap over that. The turk's head knot is next. Last....I squirt two ton epoxy under the turk's head to hold it in place then lightly coat the wrap and turk's head with epoxy for durability.

I was just looking at a Hanwei Tactical Tanto on Internet and was wondering if the handle material is anything like the stuff on the CRKT Hissatsu. Just looking at the pics it is hard to tell. Anyone have both the Hanwei and the CRKT? If so, do you get the feeling that the Hanwei is in some ways better looking, or performing?

The Hanwei Tactical tanto has been around for a long time......unless that have some new variant coming out soon. The original Hanwei tactical tanto has rayskin all the way around the handle with no wrap. I had one but never cared much for the feel of it. The Tactical waki and katana do have a similar material as the Hissatsu fixed blade.
