A good Boker folder?

A longtime collector told me that Boker was one of the best brands, so I handled some of their knives. In my opinion they were not too impressive compared to similarly priced models from other manufacturers. I haven't seen Boker mentioned in too many EDC or favorite knife lists. Do they make a good folder?

Yes, but you have to becareful.

The Chad Los Banos designs along with the Burger designs are considered good, I don't really know what else. I've never had one though.

I have the CLB designed trance and it's a really nice design.

The boker plus line mostly seems like a good deal. The Regular boker line is pretty expensive, probably because of how strong the Euro is compared to the dollar. The magnum line is the cheaper, chinese made line.

I have a Titan Defender that is awesome. This is about a $350 $400 knife and I thought long and hard, over a year, before putting my money down as I could have gotten a Umnummzaan for that price. But when I got it in I was floored! This knife is as close to custom as I've seen, the $400-$500 range of customs, and I've had several of these to compare with. It is built like a bulldog with .100" thick titanium liners, ti bolsters, a 3 3/8" X .140" blade of N690BO blade steel. I've since gotten a Applegate Folding Dagger which is also very, very nice, and it has S60V blade steel that sharpens to an absolute razor. I now have plans for the new Lightweight Titan Defender that just became available in the US. Lightweight in that it has no bolsters and green canvas micarta handles, but same heavy duty build with the thick titanium liners. Also want to get the 2009 Damascus knife which is a Titan Defender in damascus.

Guess you could say I thivk highly of Boker. I think the last few years have seen Boker improve it's line of modern knives.:D

Ditto on the Trance. I also like the Direktor and Karambit. Of the Chad Los Banos line my least favorite is the Subcom as I don't find the blade to be a greart cutter, but still it is often my go-to knife for around the house light cutting. The M Type is on my list of acquisitions for this year.

Böker don't always use the latest and greatest in materials (steel types) but their fit and finish is second to none. As it should be, they've been doing it for over 140 years by now after all.

i had a trance with a custom scale on it that i just sold, and i loved that little knife, well worth the $30ish...

M type and the Berger designs are stellar too for not alot of dough. The Berger has to be one of the best prod copies I have seen and I ain't kiddin either. keepem sharp

I like their traditional designs. I carried a pen knife in carbon steel and delrin for over a year. Last night I had a 4" stockman in carbon/ delrin in my pocket. They're great users, with a choice of 1095 (or 1075) and 440C in a good choice of bone, wood and celluloid. I don't have any of the CLB knives, though they are highly regarded.

I have several Bökers. As someone mentioned, the made in Germany ones suffer from the dollar-euro exchange ratio. Even so several of them are really quite good.
The Titan Defender was mentioned. I don't have it (yet) but I examined it already and indeed it's one of the best, most reliable liner locking knives I've ever encountered.
The compact Turbine 2 is a pretty good EDC as well. And check their folding hunter in ivory micarta.
The Taiwan-made Boker Plus ones tend to be relatively more affordable in the USA, and of these the CLB designs Trance, M-Type and Subcom are all interesting for their price. But the true gems of this series are in my opinion the two Exskelibur knives, licensed versions of a popular custom design, and they are very well made indeed for a good price.

I recently got a sodbuster from Boker, made of High Carbon steel, in Argentina. It seems really good for the price.

The AK-74 is one of the best values in auto knives at around $35-$40, if that kind of thing interests you.

They seem to have some good values in traditional patterns in HC steel, but other than the soddie, I haven't tried any yet.
