Does anybody know of a good durable clear coating that you can put on the metal to protect aganst rust? Thanks

There will probably be some comments on this but, I use Bondini 2 on metal parts that I do not want to rust. There is a new bottle out that has a brush in it so it is pretty easy to use. that way moisture is sealed out from under the wood also.

Skag,Use the Marine Tuff Cloth then put on Turtle Wax EXTREME cleaner-wax for cars.I live right off the ocean and the salt air makes everything rust, even stainless steel! I have a stainless steel banister and custom made security door's outside the house, which were just installed last year.Wiped them down with the tuff cloth then put a coat of wax, did the same to the car's .No rust and no break down from Ultra violet ray's.The wax seal's the pores of metal, have aslo used the wax on my gun's.Thier's nothing more corrosive than summer sweat 24/7 :D

Ok! What do you think of sealing the metal with some kind poly seal or something permanent?

Chris nothing is gonna be totally permanent. Personally I think Pappy is steering you right as it's damned hard to beat the Bondini 2 super glue.
And several coats put all over the handle wood included makes for a very beautiful as well as durable finish.
The one Flute I finished with the Bondini super glue has stood up well in the very hot and wet conditions of the Sweatloge while the wood on my other Flute cracked under the Poly finish I put on it.
One of these days before summer is over I will get about 10 more bottles and refinish it from the bare wood like I did my other one to prevent further cracking through the finish.
I feel if the super glue finish holds up under those conditions it should hold up on a knife handle.
I did the finish as an experiment because so many guys talked about it in the Shop Talk Forum and I concur that the super glue finish is damned hard to beat!!!!
Brings out some beautiful grain as a side benefit too!!!!
Of course if the knife is very heavily used you will probably need to replace it at least on the steel parts from time to time.
There's no such thing as a free lunch................................ Or a maintance free knife IMO.:)
The nice thing about the super glue is that it's a lot like an oil finish in that a scratch can be repaired in a similar way, just takes a little more work in sanding it down because of it's thickness as it builds up a whole lot quicker than the oil finishes do.

Nothing is permanent! the handle is going to be in your hand, the constant use will wear it off and the sun's ray's will break it down. You'll just have to reapply what ever you use when needed. But the stuff I use has worked for a longer period of time.

Sir, You use whatever you think is best. I'll stick to something that has proven to work in more ways than one. The Levis that I have on right now were the ame ones that I had on over a month ago when we got in a fight with some barbed wire and we lost. I have three small holes that I patched with Bondini 2 and they have been in the washing machine 5 or 6 time and, they still have not started to fray. I'll stick to the glue. It is on my sons Khuk and has been there all the time he has had it. Clean it, Dry it, and Paint it.:D :p :D

Pappy no offense ment, just giving info. use whatever work's.i'll be trying the Bondini 2 and see how it hold's up. OH NO!!I'AM DOING "RESEARCH"

Akabu having HIKV is part of research, but research isn't necessarily the result of HIKV.

But, I'm with Tsimi and have been cured of HIKV if indeed it ever existed at all and the explanation for me seeing the "Light" was the result of coming out of the mass hallucination I was under due to the influence of said mass hallucination always present here in the Cantina.

The only way I know for sure the Cantina even exists is the amount of big and small bent knives under my care and protection.

Yvsa, Tsimi's new assistant RESEARCHER and without paying any donations or dues, Oops, don't think I was s'possed to say that.;)

HEE.:p

Yvsa,
I hope that this "conversion" is temporary.:p
Does this also mean that you've changed your mind on the dog tacos?:D

Naw, it's not temporary at all.:) As for the dog tacos, depends on what part of the dog I get. If it would make a proper chili dog you can forget it.:barf:  :p

Thanks again for the help! Where can I get Bondini 2? I never heard of it! And how do you apply it?:)

I get Bondini from Wal-mart, but I imagine there are other places to get it. You might try one of the hobby shops. Yes, it is clear, and you can put it on with the brush that comes with it. The one with the brush is a bigger bottle than the others.
The one you want will be a purple label. The smaller red label is the same without the brush. the black label is thicker for filling larger spots like cracks and holes.:)
