I wasn't gonna hit the gun-and-knife show.

I wasn't!

It's down in town and everybody drives like they drank and/or smoked their breakfast and they've the unmitigated gall to make you pay for parking before they make you pay to get into the thing. :grumpy:

But I was bored and it's a three day weekend and and and.

It worked out fine:

Some were cheap, some were gotten in trade, but on the whole? I might need to learn to pace myself. :D

There's a lot of firsts in that picture. First friction folder. First MOP. First Swedish knife. First Solingen steel. I'm actually torn as to whether I'm more excited about the Boker or the Gerber Silver Knight.

Anyway, it was a good day, and I hope yours is too!

Cool. Be careful with the Gerber. Those were really well made and highly addictive.

Neat! Those higonokamis are pretty fun to use; very good steel. Incidentally, you can pinch the sides in a vice a bit so that the sides of the blade catch on the sides of the frame when closed to keep the edge from hitting the inside of the frame. You can also put a little something, like gutted paracord, inside the bottom of the frame to keep the edge from hitting. Plus, if it ever develops play, just give that pin a couple taps and it will be good as new.

If you get a chance, I'd like to see more of the Boker(?) two-blade.

Hm. That's a good tip on the higonokami -- it hadn't occurred to me at all that it'll hit. (I don't have an edge on it yet.) Thanks!

I'm afraid this is the best I can do on the Boker just now -- the light is going fast, this time of day:

It's very similar to a Case mini-copperhead in size. Even the frame is a similar shape, minus the little 'bulb' the Case has at the pen end. I like it; it has nice thin blades -- I suspect of carbon steel, since it doesn't say 'stainless' on it anywhere. Brass liners and nickel-silver bolsters/pins. It strikes me as odd that the pins aren't ground flat, but it's not annoying to hold.

Whaddya talking about? 5 at a time is a fairly good pace.

That's a nice take, Mark, and it sounds like you have a good time wheelin' and dealin'.

Look, now your wallet is light and carefree!

Heh. Well, I wouldn't say I broke even in my trading, but c'est la vie. I've been at this about a year, and had a few knives that just never ended up catching on. Nice to get at least some value back out of them :)

Sharpening is not my favorite thing (touch-ups, sure, but hours of basic sharpening not so much), and I won't carry a dull one, so to avoid spending the whole weekend fooling around with stones and strop I'll end up pacing myself after all. Today the Gerber, and I'll probably carry it all week. The Imperial shadow Barlow (Shadlow? Bardow?) is in its oil bath trying to degunk the pivots and knock some rust off the liners, may as well let it soak a while. I suppose the others will get their turn on the stones when I can't stand waiting any more. :D

Nice!
Congrats on the haul, I'd like one of those Gerber's myself...uh-oh :D

and I just picked up one of those Boker model 240 pen/half whittler's over the weekend, I couldn't help myself

Careful there, when I was a kid, if I was caught lying or cursing I got my mouth washed out with soap. Very unpleasant.

Blessings,
