Hello all, today I got my new junglas, as well as an ah-1 arrow head and a esse fire starter. I can't post pictures yet or I would anyway. I took the new gear out to my property to play around with my new toys. First I want to talk about the knife,it was shaving sharp out of the box. The first thing I noticed was that it was lighter then I had expected. It was also larger then it appeared in the pictures I have seen. I didn't think the handle would be very comfortable because of how large it is (I have small hands) but I was very surprised at how comfortable it was,it feels really good no hot spots, the palm swell keeps it from slipping backwards or forwards. The blade was thinner then I expected, but I'm glade that it is and with proper heat treatment it should stand up to anything I can through at it. The coting was nice And even, but it came off really easily witch doesn't really matter to me as it's a working knife. The balance point was just forward of the handle, witch made it very comfortable wen chopping for long periods of time. It proformed well wen used on green wood, but not as well as I had hoped against dried wood, it did well enough to get the job done but it was not easy. It batond well and even made fuzz sticks rather well, and was just as sharp wen I was done as it was wen I started. In the kitchen I did a little food prep it did a pretty good job with the high saber grind and shaving sharp edge. Without the coting I'm shore it would have done better. Overall the knife is grate fit and finish were good it proformed good and felt good. the fire starter is awesome looks very well built and has a large rod that is removable. Ill admit that I'm not very good at starting fires, but I managed to get one going after a bit. The compartment inside is pretty bit,and will be nice for tinder or a small survival kit. The arrow head is kinda small but it's functional ,it is in my small tin survival kit next weekend I'm going camping to try and clear my mind and relax a bit. my new gear will serve my well. Esse did a grate job with all this stuff I can't wait to get an izula and a esse 3.

Congrats on the big boy, the Junglas is a beast. The fire kit is a good buy too, I plan to get mine soon (backup to my firesteel). The izula would be a great combo with the junglas & the izula 2 comes out in mere weeks so you have a couple options. May I also recommend the HEST, without a doubt my fav ESEE so far. Welcome to the corum & the addiction.

thanks I have been wanting to get an izula for a few months now, unfortunately it just hasn't happened yet but it's going to be my next esse for shore. The hest looks good as well but that will have to wait until I get the hest folder.

Congrats on a great knife-I love mine for all around camp/survival knife. It goes with me on all my outdoor trips now. Here's the ever changing configuration

Thanks for the pix, what is that black thing you got attached to the front of your sheath? And wen did they start making the pouches for the front for the junglas? Right now I'm keeping my fire kit in the handle flap cover , with a couple of rubber band's stretched over the cap end to the rod end. It work's but not as well as I'd like. So I would like to get one of those little pouches. Thanks in advanced.

It's a Gerber camp saw.The red button loosens and the saw blade slides forward. The pouch has been available for the 5&6 I believe on the ESEE site. It's actually one of their seconds but works fine for my gear. It's paracorded to the sheath since the holes don't line up. Your only limited by your imagination when it comes to adapting gear to fit your liking.

I cannot wait to get the Junglas! I am going to carry the 6 and Izula with it for a complete system.

Thanks for the info, I thought that was a saw bur wasn't shore. I was told they were making a specific pouch for the junglas (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that would work with the mounting hardware they have for the other's, but if the one for the 5/6 will work thar would be fine with me, and its always good to have another excuse to put more para cord on or in your gear. I had a small strap laying around and hooked it up to the junglas, it worked grate good idea,I had mine strapped to the front of my chest today wen I had to clime about 35'-40' into my tree today, I had to clear some widow makers from last year's ice storm, and that strap made it much easier. So thanks for the idea and I'm going to look into one of those factory second pouches as well.

The Junglas is too big for me, at this moment I cannot justify buying one. However I 'm sure it will be added to the collection sooner or later, because why justify it with reason :D

Is that a compass, attached to the bottom of your setup, near the fire starter?

Actually there's a button compass inside the ESEE fire starter. I think what your seeing is the fire starter striker attached to the fire kit.

If you're talking about year old aged firewood type dry wood... then nothing will perform well chopping or batoning this..

I have year old oak/hickory/blackjack firewood sitting on the back porch, I use this to test the edges on my knives.. as this stuff is near impossible to baton through, and is an absolute chore to chop through, even with a 30oz Khukuri..:D

some of the best lessons can be learned in your own backyard......
