I preface this by saying it isn't about accolades but really just about a great day. :)

So way back before the world turned upside down, my grand nephew's fiance came up to me at a family gathering and asked if I would teach her how to sharpen her kitchen knives. While it caught me off guard I was of course excited. She loaded my cell number into her phone and the next day sent me some picture of a couple nice Wusthofs. We set up a date for them to come over and start learning about sharpening, play some games and visit.

But then...Well, yeah...

Anyway, we all got together today and out of nowhere she hands me this little pocket knife. It was about a 2.5" blade, smallish thing. The cheap wood handle, the thumb stud and the visible "Damascus" told me right away it was Pakistani gas station junk. She told me how she bought it from someone a couple years ago for $15. I said, "Okay kid, time we establish our relationship. You want me to be kind or honest?"

She didn't bat an eye and answered. "Honest."

So I was.

We weren't at my house so I grabbed a coffee mug out of the cupboard and showed her the basic principles of a burr and such and we talked about how she liked the size of the knife and why she liked it.

She and my grand nephew gave us a ride home and as I got out of the truck I told them to wait a minute. Now, I was going to give her one of my old Buck 425's but my wife knew what I was up to and said, "No. Give her the Case you just did up for me. That's a good knife and she'll love it and it will be from both of us."

That knife being a Case Mini Copperlock that I just dyed the scales red (my wife's favorite color).

And so I ran in the house and then back outside and presented it to her. I'm not sure if her or my grand nephew were more excited. I've given other knives to my grand nephew but he loved this one. They both did. They loved the bone and the feel and the size.

We're going to find a time when they can get over here and I'll pull out my Traditionals and see if any more click but that was really fun!
