ok, so i know about the La Griffe, i know about the Tether, i know about the SPOT and the Ronin... but i don't know enough.

what is a good neck knife? has anyone personally handled the SPOT? i am the most interested in that one. I know the La Griffe will probably be everyone's first choice, but what is comparable to that? in a good price range mind you...

any websites, info, opinions, nasty comments, good comments will help me lots. i've only got one thing on my mind: a neck knife

TELL ME ABOUT THEM!!!!

thanks

What do you want the neck knife for? Utility, defense, other?

I've carried a Benchmade AFCK (800) for several years in a neck sheath and have been very happy with this combination. $20 plus a knife you already own is cost effective.

I have also carried the Camillus Talon (154CM) with great success until the factory sheath gave up and started dropping the knife.

Take a look at the CRKT Bear Claw. Inexpensive and ergonomical. But the materials aren´t top notch: AUS-6 blade (which doesn´t provide great edge holding), Zytel scales and sheath. Many people dislike Zytel very much, but I think it´s quite useful, but not very appealing. There´s better stuff around.
All in all, the Bear Claw is still a bang for the buck IMO.

She's looking more for something as a 'hideout' or backup knife. Likely it will not be used much for utility. The AFCK rig or any rig constructed for any of her current EDC's would probably be a little large.

I think sizewise she's thinking more the La Griffe or Spot. Something small, flat and unobtrusive. Bear claw is a little wide and the sheath is just too bulky.

Correct me if I'm wrong aXed but I believe thats what your uses are going to be.

I have a Spydie Delica in a Sastre neck sheath which makes for a very light combination. I personally dislike having something heavy hanging from my neck. A small Dozier fixed blade neck knife disappears in my pocket with no trouble.

I don't particularly like the feel of something hanging from my neck.(unless it's my Viking drinking horn!;) :D ) And of course, I have two (and counting) Doziers that fit easily into a front pocket. Having said all that, let me put in a vote of sorts for a neck knife... I like the CUDA ARC-Lite. I have it in the cheapo steel... not sure which it is. I would vote for the D2 version from AGRussell. I like the inherent design of the knife, and this one would rock in D2. Stay away from the partial edged version though.:barf:

Allow me to cast a vote for the R.W. Clark wharncliffe mini-M.A.U. (modernized asian utility)*:

I have one and it's just about perfect for everyday use and very non-threatening in appearance. Overall length is about 4 1/2" and most people don't even recognize that it's a knife when it's hanging around your neck. Plus, for only a few bucks more than the EKI LaGriffe, you get a custom knife.

BOK: yeah, you're on the right track

dsvirsky: thanks for the pick! that is actually quite appealing, nice wharncliffe blade, easier to sharpen than the curve on a LaGriffe or the SPOT

now the details: you're saying a little bit more than the LaGriffe? where and when can i get one? how thick is the handle? what steel?

info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Fallkniven WM1, incredible little blade VG-10 satin finish or black teflon coating. Light tough as hell and holds an edge forever. Can get three different sheaths too!

R.W Clark M.A.U. custom knife thread here

I have a similar model in ATS-34. This was my first knife in a traditional Japanese handle treatment. I was little skeptical at first but, the more I held it, the more I like it. The sheath is also a real nice piece of work, thick kydex covered in rayskin.

If you are looking for a traditional Japanese style knife but, want one that is more practical for everyday use and priced reasonably, check out Mr. Clark's offerings @ .

dsvirsky hit a sweet spot there.

aXed - if you really like that knife that dsvirsky posted I can get it locally for you. It's a little bulkier than the likes of the La Griffe but IMO is more of a utility blade. You may get more use out of it.

Let me know.

Master Bok.

I dont know why, but I really like the arclite!!! I have it in 420, would like to have the D-2 version from ag russell. I got it last year and for some reason it works well, no frills, nothing special. I use it for canoeing, works great and not in the way, and easier to keep it dry when its up higher. :)

Probably not as popular as other knives but a COLD STEEL Mini-Culloden has worked great for me as a neck knife. I wore mine for several years everday under uniform and it always held in place but still came out fast. It was very comfortable and most of the time I didn't even know it was there. Several years of sweat and foot chases and I have never had a complaint about it. This is a pretty good field test of a knife and I believe this one has passed.

yeah, i was actually considering the CS neckknives, like the Paraedges, the Readyedge, or the Superedge, i think the Readyedge was what i drooled over the most, except a coworker said that the handle might be a bit thick, which i agreed, so rethought back over to something flatter, sigh, but i actually have $0 right now, but keep the suggestions coming and help me keep this dream alive

I have a CRKT KISS and I like it. You can use the paracord that comes with it to wrap around the handle for a better grip than that of the CUDA. The CRKT shealth has a number of combination for placement other than the neck. Its not as concealable as the CUDA though. I dont have a CUDA Arclite yet but my friends seem to like it.

I handled a S.P.O.T. at Blade. It looks goofy, but it sure feels good in the hand.
