A good sword?

I'm interested in purchasing a sword, a Roman gladius as this is my favorite type of sword. I have been looking around and have found this: http://www.swords-n-stuff.com/p-072-vc.html . My question is, does anyone know if this is a reputable place to purchase swords? It seems to be from what I've read. Thanks.

Hi,

IMHO if you want a good sword then don't go any cheaper than Del Tin or Lutel(Czech company). These two companies make good swords for the money but I certainly wouldn't consider going cheaper.

If you don't want to go custom and are in the US then you cannot go past Arms and Armour. I have handled one of their Longswords and they are simply lovely.
Cheers
Stu.

I've also heard some really nasty stories about swordsnstuffs customer service. I'd say it's probably a good idea to avoid them.

Hi,

I just thought that I would mantion that the Gladius was designed to be used in formation from behind large shields. Wielded alone, it is not the best choice of weapon IMHO.
Still, Each to his own,

Stu, I understand that, I just love the sword though. Sides, its a good blade for home defense cuz of the size. And yes, I know that a gun is better, but I cant have one yet. Thanks. Another question: I've heard some good stuff about Kris Cutlery. Any comments on them?

I dealt with Swords-n-Stuff once.

The initial transaction went very well, but upon receipt of the sword, I found it to be far inferior to the level of quality indicated in the picture. (It happens, no big deal by itself.) I immediately returned the sword to them and asked them to send me a more expensive sword, and charge the difference + shipping to my credit card.

I got no response by email.
I got nothing but the answering machine every time I called and they refused to return my calls.

Finally, after a month, I sent them an email promising them immediate destruction of their business (Death by Bladeforums!) if they did not contact me by noon that day.

They called me at 11am and informed me they were going to send me the more expensive sword (via next day air) at no charge.

They did exactly that.

Moral of the story?
I had to hold their feet to the fire, but in the end, they made it right with me.

This was more than two years ago, they may have come under new management or gotten their act togetherin the meantime. (The fact that their still in business leads me to believe this is probable.)

If you do business with them, please let us know how it works out.
