Hi Folks I thought I would share a few photos I took while at Bill's Hammer in. if you do not know Bill has a new toy a very nice 165# air hammer and no sooner then he got it set up in the new shop he ask some of his friends to come over for a play date.
Lots of folks showed up on Wednesday, Bill was still moving stuff from the old shop so they jumped in to help. Bill's good friend Gary House had been there earlier helping out, you could tell by all the elk hanging in the shed. There was still plenty to do when I got there Thursday afternoon. Everywhere someone was working on something, building the press, mounting the vise, setting up hammers, finishing up the electrical. We got a lot finished up finally the forges where lit and we began to play some making damascus some making blades some a mess of things but all having fun. Bill's place is very cool with years and years of farm stuff all around. I was chatting out behind the shop with Gary and I looked down and saw an old tractor seat and said we should make a chair for Bill I was just thinking something simple like a big spring on a plate with the seat welded to it. Well Gary he had something else in mind and started looking through all the stuff I got tried of this very quickly but Gary kept at it and keep finding all kinds of little treasures. and the pile got bigger and bigger. Gary really wanted to do something Nice for His friend and would soon have all of us involved. So When Bill went down to make dinner for all of us the boys jumped into action we brought all the crap in throw it on the floor and started brain storming. Well if your going to do a project like this it helps if you have a designated welded like Kelly Cupples. he never blinked as GaryShane and myself started telling him where we thought things should go. and the smile on gary's face just keep getting bigger as did the chair we would all be very lucky to have one friend like Gary, even though he did want to keep the chair for himself after it was done I am sure he was joking! All and all it was a great time hanging out with friends, eating great food, teaching each other and most of all celebrating the good move by Bill to buy that little hammer and set it up right. it made me happy to see the joy in his face as he got his foot into some real power. I would like to thank Mike Q for breaking away from the fun to give me some pointers on dagger handles.

All that tremendous talent rolled into a ball in one shop at the same time……WOW!!!!!

The chair is too cool!

Thanks for the peek, Dave.

A 'redneck' Barbers Chair? :D

Looks like a great time except that Mike looks waaaay too serious. ;)

Mike was working then trust me he got loose like we all did

They made me do it really they did

David, thank you for the kind words. Bill is truly a great friend and everyone's help was appreciated. We are part of a great community where when one needs help, everyone shows up. The chair was over the top and I learned about sculpting with iron relics from David. As for the elk, I hope Bill posts in knives at work some pictures.

That is frikkin awesome! Chair suits Burke to a "T".

So much talent is right, Kelly, Gary, Shane and Bill having some serious years in the game, and then you "youngsters" Dave, Mike, Marko, Erik, all part of the next generation of forging greatnesses....gotta get up there sometime soon.

Sad to miss that, but after constant years of invitation, my wife and I are gonna swing by the Fuegens next month, to include a day in the shop with Larry...don't feel too bad for me, lol!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

that chair is like the coolest thing ever! Love the pictures :)

Looks like you guys had a great time. :)

I bet you could sell that throne for $10,000 to somebody in the steam-punk crowd! :D

Great pics David, thanks for posting them, really kicking myself that I could not get there. :grumpy:
Cheers Keith

Hey David,

Thanks for posting this and thanks sooo much to you and everyone else for all the help on the shop.
The shop throne is awesome. I have sat in it every day since it was made.
The wolf air hammer astounds me with the amount of work that It will do in a short amount of time.

I am truly grateful to have such good friends. Thank You Gary, Shane, Erik, David, Jon, Mike, Kelly, Mareko, and the ladies that were here and supported your guys while the y helped me out. Patti, Cheri, Sara, Sherry T. Alicia and Andrea. I forgot to tell you then but Happy Birthday.

Only thing I see missing from the chair (well 2 things) wheels and leather seat (stuffed of course as you have to be comfy). Looks like everyone had fun. Thanks for the story and photos David.
