A good trip into Boston and a cool knife shop!

My girlfriend planned out a little excursion into Boston yesterday via the T, and it was a lot of fun, even if the main attraction didn't work out.

Our first stop and the main reason she planned the trip was to go to the Museum of Science and check out the Star Wars exhibit now that she likes Star Wars (I've gotten her to watch all of them but episode III so far and she said she liked them! :D ), but unfortunately we got there and it was sold out.

So we grabbed a bite to eat at Quincy Market, took the T into Chinatown and Boston Commons, then to the Prudential Center and the Skywalk.

But to top it all off, I found a sweet knife store there! I was walking on the brick circle in front of a bunch of shops and noticed some stairs leading underground, and with my curiosity piqued, I walked over and saw that there was a sword/knife/dart/lighter shop called "On the Edge" down there. We went down and they had a very cool selection. I never get the chance to go to knife stores, so it was great to finally be able to see the BM 630, a CRK Sebenza, the Spyderco Manix that I've had my heart set on, and best of all a ton of Swiss Army Knives, such as the One-handed German Army Knife, and the One-hand Trekker etc. I was very happy to get a new $6.50 Victorinox sheath for my Outrider and my girlfriend came very close to getting her SAK, a Victorinox Classic, but of course she decided not to buy it and wouldn't have let me buy it for her. Oh well. But the guys there seemed pretty interested in knives, they were reading some magazines and talking about manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon (of what I don't remember). Anyone here work there? It's a cool shop if you're ever in Boston. I'm not sure where exactly it was, but it was in the same plaza as Gap :barf:, Banana Republic :barf: and possibly near Loews theatre.

Are you talking about in Quincy Market? I remember a few years ago when i went there, there was a store called the Chesapeake knife compnay. I think that was the name. Well anyways they had a great selection but i couldn't buy anything because i'm too young:( . I do remember that as being the first place i actually saw a whole bunch of knives in one place.

On the Edge now occupies the store formerly lewased by the Chesapeake Knife Co. They have a much better selection, and a much more knowledgeable staff.

It is in the Quincy Market.

Unfortunately, there is a policy that anyone under 18 muct be accompanied....

This is really to cover the behinds because of Boston law.

As far as I know, this is the only good knife shop in the Boston area.

There used to be one called Stoddards. It was started decades ago.
It still exists, but now their selection sucks.

I think he is talking about Fanuiel Hall (sp). Or am I wrong? It won't be the first time or the last.I know that knife shop, as I have been there. I live on the Cape!!

Chesapeake K&T isn't in that location anymore? Wow, I really have to check it out sometime.

Maybe we could have a MA. or New England BF get together. What do you guys think?

We'd have to do it sometime when I'm back in Boston - end of December sound good?

Sounds great to me. Or in the first two weeks of January, I have them off. Anyone else?

Are you guys talking about meeting in the city of Boston?

Also, I assume everyone ignores the 2.5 inch law?

Should we decide to meet in Boston, I very much suggest that we don't whip out anything longer than 2.5 inches. If we want to leave that option open, we should mett somewher outside the city limitsa, in a place where nobody will get the knickers in a knot at the sight of a few knives.

I can meet up as well.... Lemmie know time and place.

Theres a bunch of makers from the NE area that may want to come as well.

Cool!

Next weekend I will be playing in the shop (read: my apartment room with a KMG, drill press, and way too many tools than should be there) and playing with the forge. Maybe you can come over and grind out a blade if you want or something like that if youre into making....

Otherwise, I was going to see if Idian george was having people down at his shop, and was going to try to make it down there to forge up a bunch of cable damascus.....

I'm free this sat, busy sunday. If you'd like to go down to Indian George go ahead, we'll hook up later sometime. Send me an email, I tried to send you some a while back but it was turned off in your profile.

Thanks

K ill figure out my schedule. It'll depend if i'm able to finish a KITH knife I am working on. If i finish that, I was going to start on two new folders saturday.
