A graduation gift from my wife

I am graduating with an associate’s degree in business management this weekend. I really didn’t think too much about it, since I am transferring to a university to obtain a bachelor’s degree in the same field. My wife, however, was so proud of me graduating with high honors that she told me she was getting me something special. She told me it was going to be a knife, but I had no idea as to what manufacturer or model I was going to receive. This week I passed all of my finals, and last night she gave me my present. As I unwrapped the package, I saw the familiar Spyderco box! I then slid the box open to find:

A Spyderco Techno!!!

I was surprised that she picked such a nice knife! I have always read such high remarks about the Techno, some people even favoring it over a small Sebenza, but I just never pulled the trigger on one. I must say that I am blown away with the fit and finish on this knife. The blade is perfectly centered, sharp, and the lockup is perfect. The handles are beautifully finished as well and I think that they will wear really well with use.

She asked me if it was a good knife and I replied, “It’s a great knife!” I could go on and on, but overall I am just really proud to carry this knife.

Here are some more pics:

BTW: She told me her second choice was going to be a Sage 4! I guess she likes Spyderco too. lol

First off, congrats on your degree. The discipline and drive required is pretty high. You should be proud. Secondly, congrats on your wife!!! She's seems like she's a good lady. The fact that she picked out a great knife is a bonus. Heck, any Spyderco would be good, the Techno is really neat.

Congrats on the wife, degree and lastly on a brilliant knife. All should give you lots of joy in the years to come

^^ Thanks Vegas and NoFair, I am very proud of both!

It was scary going back to school in my late twenties, but hopefully it will pay off!

Congrats on the degree and a great knife - your wife made a great choice! Great pics too, definitely pushed the techno higher on my 'want' list! Good luck with the rest of your degree - I went back to school for a grad degree in my late 20s and it was tough but a good decision! Hang in there!

I consider getting this knife like a woman getting some amazing piece of jewelry. Its just beautiful for one. Both sexes like beautiful things, we just don't always agree on what that is. Also, it's precious. We both like rare and special things. Gold is special, however Titanium is just as good or better. Gold can't be made into a useable knife. Titanium atoms are born in the largest explosions in the universe (ya, gold too) when a star explodes. The Ti atoms, under the influence of gravity, collected in regions of space. Fast forward most of “time” and some humans mine and process it. There it sits. In front of you is awesomeness. Now, we just add some alloying elements and bake. You just made 6Al-4V

6Al-4V is considered where a combination of high strength, light weight and excellent corrosion resistance are required. Some of the many applications are aircraft turbine engine components, aerospace fasteners, high performance automotive parts, marine applications and medical devices. 6Al-4V immediately forms a stable, continuous, tightly adherent oxide film upon exposure to oxygen in air or water. This accounts for for its excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of environments. It is highly resistant to general corrosion in aqueous solutions including sea water, as well as in oxidizing acids, chlorine’s (with some water present), rocket fuel and alkali’s.

The cts-xhp steel is corrosion resistant enough. Not the worlds best, but it should offer no problems. Just don't store it in PCB etchant.

The washers are going to last lifetimes so long as you stop flicking it open while you're sleeping. The backspace is rather resistant to most things also.

Knives made of these materials and to this level of quality are, and should be considered, family heirlooms. I can't wait for my Sage2 to make it to my now four month old's hands. I would never carry “dads” knife but keep it safe forever as an everlasting bond. Use it and carry it because it won't be special if you don't get your scratches on it. Be real careful and watch how it carries at first. I haven't (knock knock) lost a knife yet in 14 years. Hopefully, one day someone else gets to fall in love with that work of art all over again.

(I love knives if you hadn't noticed. I just prefer a small tight family.)

Congratulations on your degree ! I'm sure the knife is only the tip of the iceberg regarding the thoughtfulness of your wife. She has great taste and obviously you do too.

Congratulations on your achievement. You should be extremely proud, that is a cool present too. Hang onto that woman. :)

Thanks, and regardless of the knife's obvious sentiment, it really is a great knife and would make a great addition to anyone's collection.

Great Pics, it's definitely on my get soon list. Congrats on the degree.

Thanks man I appreciate it!

Wow, thanks for the education on aluminum.

I plan on using the knife, but I surly won't be abusing it.

I inherited my great grandfather's buck companion, so I know how preciouses these things can be.

Thank you sir! She is amazing. She is a high school English teacher and puts up with teenagers all day, then has to come home and deal with me. I honestly do not know how she does it. lol

Congratulations on your achievement. You should be extremely proud, that is a cool present too. Hang onto that woman. :)

Thanks I am, and I will for sure!

I was (and still am) blown away by the Techno. It kicked my small Seb out of my collection. Congrats, dude.
