A half-baked test of a Gravelle FK5, Bradford Guardian3, and a Husqvarna MP axe

Over the weekend I went on a little 1 night trip into the pseudo-wilderness national forest near Mt. Rainier. I took with me multiple knives and tools to test out, didn't really get to fully test any of them but I figured I'd share.

The Gravelle FK5 was a beast, FFG 3V blade and G10 handles, simplicity and utility. It trimmed through any branch I needed to trim, upwards of 1" branches, with 1 slice. It baton-ed through all logs I attempted with ease, the FFG really made it a breeze (you can see part of the pile of small pieces in the baton-ing demo pic). It also pierced the old & broken aluminum cook-pot we had pretty easily and with no damage to the tip. After a full night of baton-ing, slicing, and piercing, it's still sharp enough to cut paper and has no visible wear other than some very light scratches from the pot piercing. I purchased the FK5 as my big survival knife, and I can say I would certainly trust it with that job, I'll be carrying it on all my camp-outs for the foreseeable future.

The Bradford Guardian3 was picked up at the Seattle custom knife show last weekend, and I took it along as a neck knife/fine work knife. I suck at making a featherstick, but the Guardian3 was a pro at it. I wore it around my neck the entire trip, and it was always there for me if I needed to slice some meat, feather a stick, or trim up a brat-cooking skewer. Still has a razor edge after the trip, but that was expected considering it's M390.

The Husqvarna was my biggest fear, since it's big for a camp axe but small-ish and light for a felling/splitting axe. Well, it did everything I wanted it to do, and more. It chopped logs into rounds pretty well, not as fast as my brother's Collins DB cruiser but faster than the GB SFA and the tomahawk that the other campers had. It also split said rounds very well, had a good swing radius and decent heft to it. easy to pack for the size, and the steel survived the beating with only one touch up to the edge.

All in all, a very good trip and a nice campout under the trees and stars. I also had my Adamas and HEK Squall with me, but they didn't get a lot of use as I had already owned them for a while and got good use out of them already. Both are recommended.
