A handy little belly bag

I don't know if this fits the survival equipment criteria or not, but......... This little bag came in today. I wanted something to toss a water bottle and sandwich into, plus a folder and odds n, ends. Primarily it would be for metal detecting and stashing away relics\coins. And I don't care for a back pack on me all day. I put a standard plastic canteen in there for visual reference of capacity. The canteen slides in easily and sits flush (better than in poorly angled pic), so the pouch has decent depth. I like that I can access a normal sized folder easily while not having it wave to the public. The belt strap is super long as it doubles for shoulder carry, so even those with a gut, like myself, will have no fear of it not being long enough.:D

Neat. I've been looking for a good bag like this for summer. I bought a cheap gas mask bag to try out. If that doesn't work maybe I'll give this one a try.

Very cool. Will it close with the canteen inside?

I will say yes. I had to loosen the front strap a tiny bit for readjustment and cinched down gently there is maybe 1\4-1\8th inch gap. The bag is still stiff and not broken in. And there is also a secondary internal pouch to close over any contents. I was just going to use a one liter water bottle and toss some munchies in. The canteen was just a volume\capacity prop.

Ya, I usually check out army surplus first for bits of gear and have improvised for different purposes. I hear you.

Holy crap, just found my new piece of kit to order! It would make a perfect VOK kit.

Thanks!:D

hmmmmm

canteen cup + canteen + canteen stove

throw in a small tin style psk into that front pouch.

how's it feel loaded up with some weight?

Took it out for a hike today. I yanked off the leg strap in the first five minutes. I spun the bag around to hang over my right butt check and had a good day. It's a tough, handy inexpensive little bag\multi pouch that I can use roughly and it should stand up to it. I put para cord on a few zipper tabs, melted the ends. I like the bag and already started packing first aid and fire starting materials in different pouches.

Looks great, I don't balme you for ditching the leg strap, I'm sure I would/will too. Is that a Ka-Bar Mule folder? Is there room in that pocket for a smaller fixed blade like an Izula or maybe a Candiru and a smaller SAK at the same time?

I was thinking the same thing about the cup and stove.

you have a canteen, why not a cup and stove right? :D

Since you do relic hunting, I have to ask--what shovel do you use? I'm not just a scythe, billhook, and machete nerd--I'm a shovel nerd too. Living on an old farm property with horses and chickens probably fuels that, though. :p

Upnorth, thanks for sharing that with us. I was talking to a friend yesterday about wanting a pack like this for hiking. Wish it was a bit less expensive, but looks like it will do what I want so it's probably worth the price. :)

That is one of my favorite bags. Versatile. Some days I'm good with the leg strap, others it has to go.
Nice pics.

A scythe nerd?
I have a couple of Austrian Scythes with Aluminum handles, that I used to use
You buy them here in local tools supplies

Nice looking bag

I use Timbuk2 messenger bags as a satchels for the woods
either over or on the sholder
Tough single compartment bags

I prefer American pattern scythes as a whole, but all of 'em are good in my book! Keep your eyes peeled for Italian blades by Falci. I have it on good authority that they're putting out some of the highest quality European scythes right now. :D:thumbup:

I have two Fux scythes, a grass and a ditch

Here there is no real choice of scythes, given it is a minor miricle that the local tools store still carry them
So there are some American style made in Mexico heavy scythes
Or the Fux scythes

Falci have some great traditional tools

Huh--I was under the impression that Seymour was the only company still making an American scythe, and they contract their blades from Austria. The only scythe maker I know of from Central/South America is Truper, and theirs is more similar to a European scythe. Same blade style and mounting collar, but a slightly different manner of snath.

Yes it was a Truper
A ditch scythe
Felt like a shovel not like the Fux ditch scythe

Yeah not too surprising. Truper is known for putting out "usable" products not so much "enjoyable" ones. :D Schroeckenfux is sort of the industry standard for scythes these days. Though I hear that Turkey still puts out some decent blades from time to time.

At any rate, back on topic, I've always thought that that Maxpedition bag looked like an interesting alternative to a fanny pack. :)
