A Hanson W2 surprise

I just received my image back from Mitch. Thought this one would be a good one to share BS (before sheath ;) ). I enjoyed my first Plaza Cutlery show and this is what I returned with. I think Don forged this blade quite awhile back out of some W2 stock that had produced some alloy banding, but wasn't happy with the hamon after several treatments, so he set it aside for over a year. He wanted a smaller fixed blade to take to California, so he decided to re-heat treat this blade again, and the results are pictured below. The 6" forged W2 ended up with this dramatic, uniform alloy banding, plus the nice hamon.

Then, Don did more magic, and here is the final result:

It has Hanson damascus bolsters, Siberian mammoth ivory with 18K gold pins.

Now there's something you don't see every day. Very cool! Lots of visual entertainment in that blade.
