Earlier today while working in the garage I used my CV half whittler and set it down on the work bench where it ended up with a few flecks of white paint on it.

I cleaned it all off with some denatured alcohol, but for some strange reason it discolored the bone a bit.
It looks like something leached from around the pins and such, probably polishing compound or verdigris or something.
Whatever it is I quite like the character it has added on the back side cover, even looks pretty good on the front where it's fairly subtle.

Heres what it looked like before

And now

I'm starting to wonder if a bit of the leather dye that my hands are all stained up with has anything to do with some of the discoloration.
I'll probably never pin it down, but it's done and I like how it looks so theres no sense worrying about it.

I've noticed piling my knives with gun oil often discolors arround the pivots and pins on my brightly colored bone scales.

Thanks for the info.
I'm not sure I want to try it on this particular knife at this time because I really love and don't want to mess up, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

Like that mottled look  Kind of Ripped & Torn :D Think it will continue to age very nicely too, Ivory Bone is always a rewarding choice.

I'm convinced theres gotta be something going on with the leather dye that's all over my left hand, because the shield side has taken on even more color ( doesn't look quite as drastic in person, but this is the color of the medium brown dye ). That's the only explanation I can come up with, and it's been pretty warm so I can see the dye leaching off when my hand sweats.
Theres definitely less on my hands, though that's probably just from washing them a lot.
