I made a knife-like object awhile ago, and traded it with Matthew Gregory for one of his knives. I definitely got the better deal;) but he's happy too, and that makes me happy:)

Matt went and got the sheath God- Paul Long- to make a sheath for this knife. I think it looks really nice and Paul certainly did a far better job than I could hope to do. I'm truly honored to have one of my 'knife making attempts' find a home in one of Paul's outstanding sheaths:thumbup:

Lorien, the sheath you made for it was really nice and plenty"cool", but alas, it was a right and Matt is a lefty.

I was really impressed with the knife, however. That was a fine job of knife making for a cross eyed bicycle mechanic.:D

No, seriously the knife was way up there on that 1-10 scale.

Paul

funny thing is, I actually AM cross eyed!

Can't believe I missed this thread! Working too much...

Love this knife. It's all I carry on my regular trips to the forestry, trying to wear my pups out and get my head right. Before I got this sheath made by Master Paul, I'd walk past this beast as it sat on a shelf in my library and gripe that I didn't have the time or inclination to give it the battle garb it deserved, or that I needed to be able to carry it properly. Sending this to Mr. Long was one of the best decisions I've made lately, as now the knife is being used and enjoyed!!!!

Lorien's sheath was leaps and bounds better than any of my own work, and it's a crying shame that I can't use it. Of course, the knife isn't looking half bad with the runway model Paul made hanging off of it now, either, though!:)

Thanks Lorien, but I'm afraid I got the better end of the deal - I love this knife, for so many reasons. Thanks, my brother.

bruthafrumanuthamutha!

Matt, you're one of the finest people I've met in the 8 or so years I've been savaging this forum. There will be a day that we get to meet in person, wish I knew when that would be, but that just makes for a surprise and I love surprises! Let's chat soon bro.

I think that's a handsome package--looks like a very comfortable, secure handle and the blade is a handy length. Also makes for an attractive blade-to-handle ratio, visually. That little mid-spine swedge is trick. Is it sharp? Would you care to share the thinking behind it--were you thinking of a specific function there? Cool knife and a great look with Paul's sheath.

Congrats to you both!

Thanks Will.
Swedge isn't sharp, that was mostly for style points- although I justified it by calling citing 'weight savings' lol. Also, I had in mind that the knife could be buried, edge down, into a stump or whatever, and that one could drag raw timbers over the swedge in order to remove the bark. Bark on wooden structures out here leads to premature decomposition. It would make the knife into a draw knife of sorts that would be safer to use, (believe me, a real draw knife is 90% less dangerous than using a regular knife even) and that you could use on larger logs using the weight of the log to help. It might've been a dumb theory, dunno cuz I never used the knife like that.
Anyway, yeah. It's there really just to look neat. Everything else is just theory none of it's tested.
If you're interested, here's the thread I put together while making the thing; http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/773082-Oh-no!-Not-ANOTHER-knife.

Bruce, all those spinning circular things all day long...I have to get pretty drunk to keep the ceiling from spinning when it's time for bed :)

Thanks for the link, Lorien--nice work.

Reminds me I need to check in here more often.
