A hardware mace for zombies (for fun)

Hey guys, I've had an itch in the past few months to try to fashion a medieval styled mace from things like all thread, washers(and nuts) , steel gas pipe, gear sprockets/pinions, and hardwood dowels.
I have a couple designs in mind, and there are SOME pics and descriptions on YouTube, but I'm going for:
1. Something that has some of the same basic parts of the "originals" ie all steel construction, or a knobbed or flanged heads, small hand guards/rondels... 2. Could be assembled WITHOUT a forge, welder or similar toys (which I don't have YET).
I have dozens of worthy blades (cold steel, ontario, and kabar-Becker), but they need to be sharpened, and are all mainly for something other than "zombies". I'm posting/asking this for fun.

Maybe this is the wrong thing to be asking here, but I figured whet the heck...

If you guys had $20-$30 and had to make an all steel/mace type weapon for say smacking cinder blocks, or car hoods, and was NEARLY indestructible what would you make, or have made?
Thanks guys!!

3/4" all thread, pipe slid over for handle, nuts and washers to bring it all together.

Go buy a billy club/tire thumper and epoxy/screw metal nuts on it for a studded mace. You can make it look as ugly or as nice as you'd like.

Flail mace. Tow bar ball head. Steel tube handle. Chain running inside the length of handle.

Yeah. Some crazy violent hobos carry a hitch ball with a handle. It's called a goonie stick.

Great suggestions!! I like the closet club thread, and I also like the trailer ball suggestions. I'm probably going to go with an all thread design, about 22" long, with three square washers that are 2"x2" and have smaller round ones for rondel type guards. I'll use acorn nuts to finish both ends, lock washers between each piece. And then some baseball bat or tennis racket grip wrapped on the handle section. I may or may not sleeve the shaft section with some steel tubing, as I'll be watching the weight.
You guys have some excellent ideas! I'll post some pics if I get around to making one.

Yeah, I was thinking of square washers for the head. It'll be wicked. Please post pics when your done.

It's not exactly a mace, but it is hardware store born and bred.

The only problem is the threads are the weak points. There's no telling how many impacts it'll take before the head snaps off and goes flying.

It looks like that thing will be more than able to do the job in one strike anyways:D

Have you considered super glue?
