Socintel, that is a great knife, it is much bigger than it looks, a real beefy feeling handle with lots of area on that flat grind blade.

Would probably last a life time of sharpening, especially since you would not need to sharpen much..........:D

I often thought about getting one of these and putting stag handles on it, pretty easy to do since in is already tapped for screws.

Robbie Roberson ;)

It would look really great with stag handles, you should do it. :D The Field Knife is one of those knives I have been wanting to get my hands on for a long time. I have seen some pictures of it "in hand" and it really does look massive. It's really a shame they discontinued this knife. Maybe I'll get my hands on one one of these days.

I handled this model and it has quite disappointed me
very heavy on blade (and not a big blade), and not a chopper (high grind (= thin edge) at very high Rc (the one I handled had 61 Rc))

it probably performs well as a slicer, but I think blade is little too short (for the knife that feels so heavy)
and leather sheath is basically the same as with Field Pup, just a little bigger (translated: not a very good sheath)

finally the price (170$) at local store has drawn me back too :|

I have two X-42 Field Knifes (one is a very poor "2nd" I got from the factory). It seems like a very good "Field Knife". Does any one know why they discontinued this knife? Was it bad sales or production problems with BG-42? The knife is great, the factory shealth is terrible. The knife does not sit well in it and tears the shealth each time in and out. The Triple-K #138-5 leather sheath fits perfectly and looks great. Sportsman's Warehouse sells them for $14.95.
